Description To be fair, this image of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA was taken in the mid 1970s, during an inversion holding the air stagnent for a few days.

We have come a long way since, yet nature sometimes forces these inversions and not much can be done about them.  Fortunately, I would have trouble taking this image today as we have eliminated much since the Industrial Age in Great Britain, and America.  China and India's large economies have sadly lacked behind, even today.  Do you remember how China shut down industry during the Olympics as they were afraid of all the bad publicity.

If you examine this photo, (and I would suggest downloading it), you will notice a complete elimination of details the farther back from the camera's position.  I shot this with my Hasselblad 500C with a 250mm F5.6 Zeiss Sonnar on Kodak Tri-X panchromatic film.  The contrast was so low, from the haze, that I had to boost it 400% by printing on Agfa #6 contrast Brovira paper.  In this instance, for dA, I added a sepia wash to bring out the feel for the atmospheric pollution.

The lone bird flying through the air was critical to the image, and forced me to wait over a half hour, for any bird to find itself in the right position.  It brings an element of life to the photo.

Feel free to download, just give me photo credit.

Ugly stuff.  It's amazing how the smog layer shows up from the air.
