its a lovely composition, and about all the comments abt the flaws of this shot, i feel its the flaws and not the perfection that makes a photo interesting, everyone has his/her own style. and also i feel there is no such thing as a perfect picture.

a good shot, but has a few faults. for one, the skin around her nose and lips is a bit too bright, blending too easily with the white of the background. i'm not sure a square portrait works best with the pose. the vertical pose of her body should be reflected in a more vertical shot, ranging more in height than width, making the square proportions uneven. i also can't help but notice a finger, or perhaps her thumb at the bottom left of her figure, insinuating that there is more than meets the eye, or rather, shown to the viewers eyes. the collar also has the same problem that her face does. good work though, but keep trying.

I don't really care to hear your snide opinions pertaining to format. You know little or nothing about square format and/or studio lighting patterns.

there's a difference between knowing how to take a photo, and taking one.
you obviously know a large amount of techniques, formats, and equipment. you lack an artistic eye, however. you remind me of a "professional" photographer that i know, who is wealthy in knowledge, but his artistic abilities do not reflect upon such.
i don't know anything about square formats, or studio lighting patterns. however, i do know art, and i know how to capture it in a photograph. you're still learning that, and it's okay.
if you'd ever like tips, i'd be happy to share.

Actually, judging by our conversation regarding cubism last night I wouldn't say you "know" art. You know shit. I lack nothing.

"it really only matters what you think of your art" - when you upload your images on a site specifically asking for critique, you have to wonder if that still holds true.

I wonder if people often die of excess comments?

Second Comment:
This is a good shot at a silo. The eyelight is nice Adam but you've got some issues here. Firstly you've got a tonal registry in the shirt, it's a different tone than the silo bg but still it's a bare difference, and in reality, pushed too far. The nose highlight is also an issue, it is just too hot. Nice work in maintaining a tone to the black jacket, it looks like a velvet and black velvet has a 2% reflectance so excellent job with that control. I'd like to see more texture to the fabric and some raking light could have done this for you. Next time use that backlight you've got to rake the coat AND the hair. You have the right setup, just the wrong ratios and slightly off-angles. Her skin tones are intentionally high and that's obvious, but everything is 1/3 stop too high, even for your intent. Also, get a stylist while you're at Brooks. lol~
Great work Adam
