Description I've just realized that I drew only few of Yuina pictures here though she is one of my main OCs (taken from my sanguine side). SO here it is one artwork of her. I think I'll draw more of her later.

Drawn by Faber Castell Pencil Color (it really feels damn nice to move my pencil color again since the last time >///<) . I did some clearing by photoshop CS3 portable, and add a frame by photoscape.

STORY OF THIS PICTURE:

Just when Yuina thought that the sun heat would melt her, she looked to the sky and saw some red dragonflies hovering around her. It often happens to me. Whenever I take a walks and feel really tired, I will look to the sky. The blue sky or the flying birds, butterflies, dragonflies (any creature that have wings heheh) will instantly cure my fatigue and suddenly I feel better and more energized to continue my journey...

The perspective is really hard for me. But the more difficult was drawing the dragonflies. Especially their transparent wings and theirs patterns. PHEW! I think I should train to draw dragonflies more.... (Yeah I drew dragonflies at the very last time to fill the blank spaces)... They are really wonderful creatures, I just realized it after drawing them. In drawing the dragonflies, I was helped by a tutorial made by Ian Wongkar. His tutorials are really detailed and amazing. Here is his tutorial: web.facebook.com/ayenwongkar/m…

Anyway, Aka Tombo or red dragonfly appears in the end of summer season and becomes the sign of upcoming autumn. So the upload time is really clicking nee?

And I found a song titled Aka Tombo in youtube. It's really melancholic and mellow. Check them out. Here is the lyrics in Japanese and English version...

Yûyake-koyake no akatombo.
Owarete mitano wa itsu no hi ka.
Yama no hatake no kuwa no mi o
Kokago ni tsunda wa maboroshi ka.
Jûgo de nêya wa yome ni yuki,
Osato no tayori mo taehateta.
Yûyake koyake no akatombo -
Tomatte iru yo, sao no saki.

English Translation

Dragonflies as red as sunset
Back when I was young
In twilight skies, there on her back
I'd ride When the day was done

Mountain fields in late November
Long ago it seems
Mulberry trees and treasures we would gather
Was it only just a dream?

Just fifteen she went away one day
Married then so young
Like a sister lost, I loved and missed her
Letters never seemed to come

Dragonflies as red as sunset
Back when I was young
Now in my eyes, when I see dragonflies
Tears are always sure to come

How colorful & nice this artwork looks, the girl reminded me of Hikaru (from Rayearth) when I first saw this piece but I read that she's actually an OC of yours. haha
Also wonderful poem, too, you've included.

You know what? I designed her when I was in high school and yesh I was looking at Hikaru Shidou's hair at that time XD You could say this character was inspired by her. Sharp! No one has noticed it before. It's really fun to meet another enthusiastic and avid CLAMP fans

The poem is actually a Japanese song lyrics Akatombo (Red dragonfly). It's on youtube

How cool! And I'm glad to hear this trivia from you, too.
(Still is good, and would be happy to discuss Clamp's works with you anytime. )

Oh, how neat. I will have to give that a listen to as well.

Firstly you did an excellent job of eliminating the grainy look. Especially the colouring on Yuina looks very smooth and clear. A huge improvement from Moving On In general all the colouring looks quite nice.

The first thing that stands out as off to me is the positioning and general appearance of her legs, they both appear to be a bit uneven and... twisty. I think both could stand to be a little bit thicker and straighter. I think I know what you were trying to go with but it came off as looking just more crooked and odd. I searched the picture you used as reference and the legs don’t exactly look right in that picture either. So it could be partial reference failure here.

Another thing which could potentially use some tweaking is the wrinkles on her clothes, most noticeable on her upper left arm (the long wrinkle across near her shoulder). I’d advise against having wrinkles criss-cross directly over each other in a very angular ways.

And then some things I just want to mention because they look really good!

Her eyes, which look very solid and clear. The colouring on her skin is wonderfully smooth. Her left hand – I wish I could draw hands that well. And then finally just how crisp her colouring looks. It’s quite nice and appealing. Although, outlining everything (as opposed to just her) might help to prevent it to look like it’s fading a little.

Now finally I have a question – What is the colouring on the pavement (to her right in blues and yellows)?

Overall this came out really nicely and your colouring is looking fantastic! I’m looking forward to seeing your next piece. Well done! Hopefully this helps and I make some sense. ^^

If you have a specific question I'd be happy to (try) to answer. ^^

Oh great! One heavily comprehensive critique, as usual First I would like to say thank you for spending time to type this long one :iconcryforeverpls: And you even search the pic I used as reference T-T... really thanks...

About the lesser grainy look, is it? I've just realized when you mentioned it. Owh! I wonder if the sharpness of the pencil gives impact on whether it will be grainy or not. I'm happy if you say I have some progress here I hope I could do better next time. Please look forward for me >_< The color is a bit minimalism here (just like the reference). Wonder if I could do well if I use more colors next? @_@

About the leg....yeaa...you hit one more point here. I rotate my art times and feel not okay with the legs. As you said they're uneven. High angle and low angle are difficult for me. I'll try these angle again next

You think lining other subjects like the grass, the fence, and the dragonflies will make this better? Hmm... I wonder... I intentionally only lined the non-human subjects using pencil color instead of drawing pen to make them look more natural. I should do other experiments next (actually sometimes my hands are trembling when giving lineart using drawing pen XD So basically lining with pencil color is playing save here heheheheh XD)

Finally, the color of the pavement on her right? Um... I meant to make grasses there. Some grasses that sticking out to the road from the fence^^

Once again really thanks Your critiques always delicious and helpful Thanks
