I may have listened to the "Immigrant Song" a few times while drawing this...So it's Valentine's Day, and what better day to celebrate our married pony couple, especially when one of them is widely known as the Princess of Love? Of course, the marketing for the movie brought up what I thought was an interesting angle on Cadance... In some materials, she was referred to as the "Princess of Family", not "Love". Thinking about it, that family title likely does fit her more thoroughly... We haven't seen hide nor hair of her "love powers" since the episode which introduced her, and character-wise she has certainly been used in stories focusing on family more than she has dealt with anyone's love life. Admittedly, it's mostly been her own family, but still... her role has always been that of the Big Sister Princess to Twilight, to go along with her Teacher-Mentor Princess Celestia. Her transition into motherhood has furthered the theme, of course... but I also like the idea that her backstory (from the chapter books) has her being an orphaned Pegasus (sorry Scootaloo... she beat you to it!) before becoming a princess, and there's something satisfying about an orphan becoming the Princess of Family.
And really, you need a little romantic love in there to get your family started, so it's not like it cuts her off from her original title at all. Plus, there are few things in this world that you want to cross less than an angry Mother defending her family... so it leaves room for her to be much more of a badass than a straight up Love Princess.
On a tangent, I have found myself having some struggles to make ends meet, and as such I am looking to start a Patreon page as a kind of tip jar for anyone who might like to help keep me focused on fan art. The thing is though, I'm really green at all of this Patreon stuff, so I'd be more than happy to hear ideas from people out there. What kind of reward tiers might people want, what kind of incentives and interaction, and so on. Really, any perspective would be valuable to me as I mull over how to actually do this. I would still be posting artwork here as well, although it might be after a delay to give any backers a first look and so on.

And you've got a point about Cady's role. (Also, those love powers as seen in her debut... well, if you ask me, brainwashing is brainwashing, regardless of the intentions of the person doing it. Also, making those two forget their argument and feel all lovey dovey doesn't make the things that led to the argument go away, doesn't even teach them anything that will help them fix their own problems... it's a placebo, it's a temporary fix that makes you think you feel better for a moment but really changes nothing. So, the one moment ever that we have for her resume as the Princess of Love isn't even a good one! Her real theme being family actually has a lot more going for it. Though, I like to think of that as something early in her career that she now recognizes as not actually being the way to go about it, and she really represents every kind of love.)

The best theory I know for fixing the delayed squick with that scene is to assume that she made them recall all the good times they had together, and that that was what Twilight based the spell that she used to un-Discord her friends.

People prefer love since that's more broad and more open to interpretation. It also creates a nice counterpart to Twilight's title as the princess of friendship. Family bonds is simply one form of love. Love is also a stronger bond than friendship which fits nicely with the image of Cadance as a more mature and experienced counterpart to Twilight. Applejack already focuses on family so that's another reason people prefer love as there isn't really a major character that focuses on that.
I don't think of Cadance as a warrior though, she has Shining to do that for her. She is more a diplomat and a ruler, in other words she excels in soft skills. It would make them dependent on each other which is always good. I do think they can do the other ones job if it's needed, Shining can hold meetings in Cadance is unavailable and Cadance can defend herself if needed but they prefer to let the other handle those things.

She didn't display that much skill. Also she can enjoy fighting but it's not where her talents or her true interests lie.
I just prefer to make Shining and Cadance the opposite of each other so they depend on each other. Just like a real married couple should.

I didn't know Cadance was a "Princess of Family" now. Huh. I guess Hasbro wants to keep the ponies as aromantic as possible, so even a married pink pony princess with a baby can't be associated with love anymore, because that would mean that she *gasp* had sex! What a strange and inappropriate idea in a kid's show, am I right?!

The implication that Cadence got knocked up by Shining Armor would be completely missed by most young children, the primary target audience for the show. The children lack the dirty mind that most other fans of the show have, and therefore they wouldn't get it until they watch the show again when they're older.

True, but the point of my sarcasm was that Hasbro is playing it way too safe. Kids aren't stupid, there's no point in censoring things like romantic love from them. Why would anyone even want to do that? I'm not saying they should show kids how Flurry Heart was made, but changing Cadance's official title from Princess of Love to Princess of Family is just ridiculous.
