Kazuya is a very lax individual he tends to come off as overly nonchalant making people think he's a slacker without a care in the world.However while this is half true he's proud to call himself a chef and is passionate about cooking and teaching people how to cook, his motto is that the only person that cannot cook are the deaf blind and dumb. He has a very friendly nature and will for the most part approach people undaunted by whatever sneer or scowl they have on their face. Though he's not exactly stupid and can tell when he isn't wanted.This coupled with his rather comical likes and reactions to things along with his high school "troubles" can lead to him worrying about very silly things.

He can be down right stand-offish when it comes to something he's adamant about and when faced with an issue he chooses to obsess over it rather than ignore it, for all the good and bad that it does him

Overall

[History]For as long as Kazuya could remember he was captivated by his parents cooking, the feint aromas that wafted from the kitchen so early in the mornings to so late at night enthralled him and embedded themselves into the core of his youthful memories.Along with those smells the nostalgic "open" sign and the sound of familiar voices ordering food mixed in with these childhood memories. It was here, in his parent's restaurant that he considered to be the cornerstone of Seiikei.By the time he was old enough to help around the kitchen he was already doing that and more, so taken with his parents craft that he himself aspired to be as good as them maybe even better. With each passing year he became more and more involved with the restaurants orders and every failed dish and returned plate spurred him to keep improving.

However not everything can last forever and happiness is no stranger to change, Kazuya's mother eventually fell ill being monitored by doctors it was assumed that she simply overworked herself and would be okay. He'd see his mother tomorrow morning is what Kazuya thought as his father bought him home.

His mother never came back, just like that with one phone call their entire life had grown significantly dimmer.

Without Kazuya's mother by his side Kazuya's father felt like half the chef that he was, bills began pilling up and even with old time customers showing their support his father decided to close down their restaurant, their home, and the place that Kazuya's mother smiled the most was now gone.

Furious with his father that he would give up their last memento of her he was brushed off with the cold utterance of

"Memories won't pay bills."

Although he could understand it, even sympathize with what his father said he could not acknowledge or forgive him for his decision, and the son and father grew more and more distant.

His father eventually got a job as the head chef of a much more successful local restaurant while Kazuya taking all of his frustration into himself made a quiet resolution, one that wouldn't be easy but one that he would carry with him into highschool and beyond.

"A good chef doesn't forget the ingredients that led to his dish of success"
