Lillian had been looking forward to this training event at Ravensport for months now. It was a great chance to brush up on her cross country seat, and she was very eager to see how Vanya could take the course.

The spotted mare was doing wonderfully so far. She hadn't balked at any jumps and none of the other horses or dogs had seemed to excite her. She was doing so well, in fact, that Lillian decided she would attempt a larger wall jump.

Approaching the jump she could tell that something was wrong. Vanya was veering off course and tossing her head, which she hadn't done yet. But, guessing that the mare was just nervous about the larger obstacle Lillian urged her on with her leg.

The mare suspended, and....

snap.

Lillian pulled back only to meet no resistance from her left rein. It had snapped in half! All she could think before she hit the ground was how stupid she was for not listening to the mare. She was trained to protect her rider for goodness sake! As Lillian lifted herself from the muddy ground she saw Vanya standing quietly a few yards away. Vanya's ground-tying lessons had come in handy after all, it seemed.

After Vanya was deemed ok by the vet and Lillian was released from the on-site EMT (she insisted that she was fine besides the bruising and soreness in her hip), she grabbed the extra bridle from the horse trailer and continued riding for the rest of the day. She met some great friends, and Vanya had taken all of the jumps like a pro, although she seemed a little miffed for the rest of the day about loosing her rider

Hehe, well, I went to the RNG's to see what would happen during this event, and they decided that Lillian was going to hit the dirt But, Vanya is so bombproof I knew it couldn't be from spooking, so what better than a tack malfunction?

This was a very fun pic to do! I decided I'd try one with no reference, and that's what I did here. So, I know there are probably a lot of things wrong with it, but I'm fairly happy with the outcome
