Description The Countess of the Rose was inspired by a character in a short story I've been writing, but never finished.

Comtesse Montagne de Paix and her husband, the Count, escape to England just before the Reign of Terror breaks out in 1789. Her lover, a professor and poet, is captured by the mob and remains in France. Facing the Guillotine, the poet writes a sonnet to the Countess, to be smuggled out and sent to her in exile. In the poem, he professes his undying love for her, and promises to watch over her in spirit, appearing to her in the form of a beautiful rose, and "singing" to her in a rose-language that only the two of them can understand.

The Comtesse lived in exile for another forty years. Every day, during her "correspondence hour", she would have a fresh rose brought to her for her romantic, mystical contemplations. She lived the life of a true patron of the arts, and helped the burgeoning Romantic movement get it's start in England. During her English sojourn, she was affectionately referred to as "The Countess of the Rose".

Special thanks to the incomparable Arianna LaBosco of VampiricMedusa, who appears as The Countess.

Her icon..... The portrait of Arianna's is from a private collection, used by permission.

Special Thanks to Galerie de Montmartre for the 18th century costume. Be sure to see the original at...[link]

Thanks to gild-a-stock ... for the amazing Georgian Room.

Thanks to turtledove... for the lovely red rose.

Thank you so much. This work was very pivotal in my growth as a manipulator. I was very fortunate to have great pictures with which to work, especially Arianna's, and I got lucky on the lighting. The text just came naturally.

Thanks so much for noticing.

Thanks so much. Maybe I should get back to it when I have more time. It's a bit of "Tale of Two Cities" and a dash of "The Scarlet Pimpernel".
