My first completed fanart in a long time... the lovely H'aanit from Octopath Traveler! I first found this game through its amazing soundtrack, which I consider the best I've ever heard. Sadly, any interactions with the game itself must be secondhand, since I don’t own a Switch – although a close friend once sat me down with his copy when I paid him a visit; I played as local doctor Alfyn Greengrass, of course. But H'aanit is wild beauty and strong grace, so she is a worthy first for drawing, you would agree?
(Alfyn'll get some art from me soon, I hope – he's my unabashed favorite, but that outfit of his will be challenging!)
This piece, in my opinion, perfectly showcases just how beautiful chisel tip markers can be when used with skill. All of those dramatic, painterly, tapering thick lines are delicious – perfect for depicting fur, an abundant texture in this work. I only could have come this far with an easy reference on hand – I used H'aanit's official promotional art for that – there were so many individual details I never did catch before, like the extra knots in her belt and the small braids to the side of her head. Speaking of braids...! For all that I tend to draw them, I really don't know how to make them look right freehand! I should look up some tutorials soon – can't keep making them wavy rope blobs forever…
