True, but I just wish Shiki was more popular. And I love the episode where Chizuru and Sunako are up in the window with their Lady Gaga sunglasses on while Shoujirou is trying to trick the humans into thinking they're alive.

Actually, the manga reveals it was Yoshie and a mannequin. There do need to be more Shiki - Gaga crossovers, though. I mean...just look at that hair.

There's the hair, the acid trips, the connections to the music industry, and, weeellll, Google "MK-ULTRA" if you want to not be able to unsee some of the recurring themes in pop culture. It'll make you WTF.

I've yet to read the manga, though I'd like to. And I agree with the Gaga comparisons, Chizuru reminds me of her in her Fame & Fame Monster eras.

I read MK-Ultra's Wikipedia page, and well, that's actually really disturbing... but interesting. It isn't the first time Big Brother has done something messed up. I remember reading about them infecting a bunch of Guatemalan citizens with some kind of STD in the 1950's, as part of an "experiment."

Are you into conspiracy theories? Have you heard of the Illuminati or monarch mind control? It's linked to pop culture in a lot of ways, specifically the music industry. It's actually pretty scary.

As a Little Monster, I've actually made a document detailing exactly how similar the two are. It's insane. They even slipped a monster paw into one episode! Somebody in the animation studios has done their homework...

YES, actually. The more I watch Shiki, the more MK-Ultra/Monarch I catch, and the more it feels like the series is trying to use the exact same tricks Lady Gaga herself is. (Intense alter personalities programmed to kill are just the tip of the iceberg.) The connections to the music industry beyond her

Ooh, can I see? I used to be a Little Monster, but I'm not really feeling her new album (except for Judas and Heavy Metal Lover) or image. I still love her though.

Also, I thought so too (with the comparisons), though I haven't looked into it as deeply. Is Chizuru in the manga as flashy and Lady Gaga-esque as she is in the anime? Meaning, has she always been like that, or did the animators decide to base her off of Lady Gaga while the anime was being made?

I really want to rewatch Shiki, but I'm gonna wait until Funimation finishes dubbing it to rewatch. Do you think they're using the same kind of tricks/mind control that they use in the music industry, for the anime? Or do you mean that the vampires are using mind control on the humans in the actual anime, or the anime itself using mind control on us, the viewers?

Note me your e-mail. I still support Gaga because she actually has talent, which is a rare thing nowadays. "Government Hooker" just plain scares me...I think Interscope's trying to transition into Natalia Kills with that one.

In a word, yes. In greater detail, the animators did that and then some.

Same tricks as the music industry. Japanese Google searches are particularly fruitful in this regard. (Here's a good example: [link] Note the mask and butterfly.) So, again, it feels like yes to everything given that Shiki bites CAN be used to brainwash.

I think Natalia's okay, but she really is kind of similar to Gaga. I think it's because she's worked with practically the same people Gaga worked with in her debut album (Akon, Laurieann Gibson, Interscope, Cherry Tree.. I think)

And that is strange... with the butterfly. Besides, Shiki seems, in my opinion, more than just a simple anime. I mean it's kind of a masterpiece and it sticks in the back of your head forever after you watch it. And with the mind control bites, etc. I so want to be one.

You can tell they're trying to make her the next Gaga. (Yep.)

There's also a butterfly in the first ending. Honestly, I didn't think to look for the symbolism until I thought, "hmm, if Chizuru = Gaga and Gaga = brainwashing..." and then I kept finding it. It's not -as- heavy as I've seen it laid on, but you do need to know what to look for. Masterpiece indeed. You and me both; humans are too versatile for their own good. Awesome malaria ho!

I got 'em! Spot on with the Chizuru/Shiki-Gaga explanation. The Shiki Notes were the most interesting to read, I love how you explained most of it with scientific research. It's like this could actually happen, which makes me very happy/anxious/nervous. The timeline is great too. (And I never noticed that Megumi was bitten on my birthday (Aug. 12), which the timeline brought to my attention). If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take to research, compile all the information, and write it? This is like a professional research paper (more interesting though, of course).

I've had even more fun with the idea since. Next Megumi stamp will have a tiny hint in there. Also, Gaga jokes are inevitable whenever I go on a riff spree. Glad the timeline amused you, too!

OH gosh...I don't even know! I worked on it on and off. Every time I rewatched the series (the RAWs were excellent Japanese practice!) or read the manga, something new would get added to the notes. Sometimes I'd spontaneously decide to explain something. Overall, I'd say somewhere from 5-7 months, not counting my long-standing parasite obsession. (That sicko in the class who wanted to watch Animal Planet's parasite movie before Thanksgiving Break? Yeah, that was me.) There's still stuff that needs to be fixed (some of the tame rates need adjusting, for example)
