how much does blender cost? Judging by what it can do I imagine it's expensive...

Takes a bit of getting used to, to be sure! Though a lot of the skill sets from painting (and I mean painting, vs drawing) seem to carry over well to 3d space, so far as the thinking in terms of volume, surface texture, ambient lighting and color goes. : ]

Not bad, in fact I like it, I'm no 3d modeller, But I have been around 3DS max once or twice and have to say, for as difficult as this field is, you've done pretty well so far. The only thing that I don't like about this is how shiny the model is. Which is fine, not sure if there is a luster filter.

Yah, the course really hasn't taken me through much in the ways of shaders and textures, so until it does the renders will look like they're made out of plastic. : D
thanks!

What tutorial are you using?
I'm also pursuing 3D, but currently work in Maya due to being a student.
You've definitely taken on a lot and really pushed yourself! The improvement easily shows within your pictures here. I look forward to more updates.
Oh! I would also love to see your model's geometry before you smooth it. I'm curious as to the forms you use and how nit-picky the tutorial is teaching you to be in regards to topology. c:

[link] - tutorialsss
Maya's been the industry standard for a long time, heh. The tutorial hasn't taught me to be picky, but I sure as hell am starting to pick that up anyway. Extra duplicates of my vertices are the bane of my existence. : ]
Oh, hm. It'd be a bit hard to show for all the objects in the model but, I can show the head piece a bit here.
[link] - Unmodified polygon
[link] - Subdivided x3 by modifier
[link] - Smooth Shading enabled
[link] - Wireframe of unmodified polygon
[link] - Wireframe of modified polygon
Its pretty fun to predict and make use of the ways a subdivision modifier will tone down the edges, helps creates things like fingers on a hand out of practically square components, which saves a loooot of time if you're just after a working render of de model. : ]

Thanks so much for the link!
Oh fantastic! I was curious as to how you went about the head, actually. Thanks for giving me the chance to take a quick peek at it.
It's good to keep an eye out for those duplicated vertices, for sure! haha They can mess you up pretty quickly. Also try your best to make sure all polygons only have four sides. A few with three is generally okay, but five sided polygons are the ones to try and completely avoid. If it's just for the rendered model then I suppose it doesn't matter as much, but it's a habit you don't want to create if you can avoid it! Anything above four sides will create huge issues when you get into rigging. It is okay to have five sided polys in your first draft, but then it's always good to go back in and see if you can simplify the geometry.
Sorry if I'm repeating things you have already been told! Just trying to lend a hand. c:
I'm really glad you're enjoying 3d work so much! You integrate your style into your models really well so far. I look forward to seeing more.

Ok, now im 100% convinced we are either Twins subconsciously linked together....or clones with physic connections. Because I recently downloaded DAZ studios and started to learn how to work with 3D. I'd be interested in seeing your tutorials, since I havent been able to find many regarding my program. Or to just chat about it sometime....that usually helps.

Nope, theres a ton of free resources for blender.

I think learning proper topology should come way before learning to sculpt... because with uneven and horrible topology problems are bound to come up in the sculpting phase...
