all closed! thank you so much, i'll be announcing the winners shortly!!!hello! welcome to the first dyrnid DTA event! there is a slight twist on the usual formula here; this event is more like "design to adopt". i want you to design these nidlings' adult forms! they're only about a year old, so they're still in the fussy infant stage. they're covered in downy baby fur, their horns haven't grown in yet, they have neither the ability nor the desire to accessorise themselves, and honestly, their markings and colours probably aren't fully settled. your job is to change that.

GENERAL
Dyrnids are a species from a story I started writing in 2009. In the narrative, they're long-lived creatures with human-level sapience, intelligent enough to form their own cultures, and an unparalleled affinity for soul magic. Right here and now, though, they're just a cute sparklebeast species.
They're large quadruped mammals about the size of draft horses, although not so heavy since their bulk is really mostly fluff; their lifespan is around 80 years, with sexual maturity being around 25 years.
ANATOMY

SOCIETY & CULTURE
They’re omnivorous but they mostly eat fruits and nuts, some tubers, and the leaves of succulents; they need a lot of sugar.
Dyrnids consider it rude to move around a lot, so there's not much body language; instead, they use vocalisations to convey general emotion and intent, and telepathy for complex dialogue.

TO ENTER pick one of these nids and draw their adult form. design their horns, tail, fluff distribution/hairstyles, and add any accessories you feel they might like! feel free to play around with and re-interpret their markings and colours, also!

you must draw at least one coloured pose of your finished design. it can be sketchy or unshaded, but all design elements should be clear and visible! additional poses/views, outfits, and supplementary pictures are optional, but encouraged.

you should be a member of goshdyrnit to enter, and simply submit all your entries to the DTA folder in the group!

ENTRIES & JUDGING: all artwork, in any medium, of any skill level is accepted & encouraged, so long as they are VISUAL & COLOURED--writing-only entries are no-go here, i'm afraid! your entry can include artwork that is only at the sketch or lineart stage, but should not be comprised of them; you must submit at least one coloured picture to be considered.

entries will be judged on creativity, interpretation, and sentiment.

picking names or pronouns, coming up with a personality or backstory for your entry, or drawing multiple artworks of your entry will help, but are not required! the more thought and affection you put into your entry, the more it'll be noticed. i am really invested in these babies going to good, loving homes, so try to show how much you care about your design in your entry!

I will have final say over the winners, but my sparkle buddies burrdog and Mechtadyne (and probably my entire private twitter feed lbr) will be helping me out for when i inevitably break down in tears of indecision, haha!

RULES the original design can be altered or obscured, but it should still be recognisable. you can (and are encouraged to!) change and add or remove colours and markings, but try to maintain a visible link! if i don't think it's recognisable enough, i will let you know, and you may change it.

RARITY LIMITS all three nids are COMMON DYRNIDS. this means they may only take on traits from mammals! for example, you may not add bioluminence of any kind, wings, plants or geodes growing out of your dyrnid, sparkles, clouds of mist, etc. Mammalian traits only!
you have up to 2 rarity points to "spend" between the coat, markings, and ears.
you have up to 3 rarity points to "spend" between the horns and the tail. (i.e. maximum of uncommon horns+rare tail, or rare horns+uncommon tail.)
regarding accessories: dyrnids love wearing all sorts of bling; chains, beads, jewels, sashes, and so on. hats, cloaks, you name it; you should absolutely go wild with accessories and clothes! somehow they've got fairly advanced metalworking, mining, and weaving cultures despite the lack of opposable thumbs? do not question it. however, they don't have access to large quantities of metal, so avoid stuff like armour or cybernetic-looking things.
if you go over the rarity limits or break any other rules of the species, i will ask you to change things. if you fail to comply, your entry will simply not be counted.

CONDUCT all artwork entered must be 100% your own work!
you may enter as many times as you like, on any of the nids! however, you can only win on one of the designs.
should you win your design, it will be open to gifting and trading only: absolutely no reselling allowed.
rudeness toward or harassment of any person involved will not be tolerated.
just be chill and have a good time, folks, i'm really excited about this

WINNER'S CIRCLE there will be 3 winners chosen, one for each nidling. these grand prize winners will, of course, get to keep their adult dyrnid design! they will also get their design transferred onto an official dyrnid bases. (you know, if they want.)
Mechtadyne will also donate one chibi similar to this (but a tad smaller) of the winning designs to each winner!!

there will be also 3 runner-ups! these runner-ups will get a free MYO dyrnid slot to use, gift or trade as they please! again, they cannot be resold.

depending on the number of entries, i may give out more runner-up MYO slots or additional prizes and bonuses!

if you do not win, any of the outfits & backstories you designed are free for you to use as you please.
