Katara winced.

"You okay?" Aang sat down beside her and rubbed her swollen belly gently.

"I'm fine. The baby's kicking," she laughed, taking his hand and pressing it to the right spot. Aang gasped quietly in delight.

"Our baby," he murmured, feeling joy expand in his chest.

"Ours," Katara repeated.

Aang rubbed her arm absentmindedly.

"I can hear her heartbeat, you know," he said softly.

"I can't," Katara admitted. "But I can feel the rhythm, the life. His life,"she added, teasingly.

"I still think it's a girl." Both smiled--they'd had this argument before. "A girl with clear blue eyes and so much compassion it's hard to believe how temperous and determined she can be."

"It's a boy," insisted Katara. "I'm a mother. I know these things. It'll be a boy with wide, innocent silver eyes the colour of a sky after the storm, and soft dark hair, and a clever mouth, and the biggest heart."

"Whatever the gender, this one'll be a heartbreaker," Aang said, kissing her. "How could she not, with such a beautiful mother?"

"And such a handsome father," Katara mouthed against his lips, and kissed him back.

Three hearts thudded in harmony.
