Description i like the new she-ra! i do not like the cowards on the internet complaining that her new design looks "too" "masculine" because her shoulders are broad. i know they are just insecure because her arms are bigger than theirs but it still annoyed me. so i drew this

Im so glad they actually made different body types for the show?? it was so desperately needed and all the designs are so pretty umu <3

BIG STRONG ARMS!! such a fun, uplifting show T_T i feel so sorry for the people who are insecure about their tiny weak feeble arms in comparison )-: they should try to be positive about themselves even though they're very weak and cannot lift a sword and for some reason think a sparkly cartoon princess show aimed at 10 year old girls needs to be held to some specific standard they made up??

but WHERE THE BOOBIES??
or at the very least BOOB ARMOUR?? IMPLANTS??? BATTLE LIPSTICKS???
How will She-ra ever find a MAN with a face like -- a regular young teen girl.Β
DISGUSTING.

(In all seriousness though the show is exceptional and they really are missing out. Im sorry you had to deal with these....odd odd people, yikes. But Im so glad you made this fan art. Bless.)

Honestly, if I wanted a strong masculine female who at least looks like a woman I have Wonder Woman for that. Even then Wonder Woman's humble personality tends to make me and others like her. If DC was to suddenly change her from that and do what the staff did to She-Ra then people would have the right to be upset. There's even this person I know who has a masculine female for a OC with a pretty appealing personality and I even find her character to be better than She-Ra. I'm not really a She-Ra fan, I just like following the drama.

I mean just watching how desperately the fans are protecting this show is hilarious. Like just because someone is criticizing your favorite show or express a negative opinion doesn't make them insecure. I think She-Ra would have worked for older fans if she was her own character. Y'know? Like Steven Universe and speaking of which the fact that the show desperately wants to be Steven Universe (a show that doing it's own thing which is good) is what makes the show kind of pathetic in my view. Or does that make me insecure, according to your words? Oh and the show's bad artstyle made me phenomenally feel better about my artstyle.

As someone who loves Wonder woman - no, I would not be upset if they drew a young teen version of her with smaller breasts?? The new show establishes that she is a young woman and she has a build that perfectly reflects that. What the hell is there to complain about? That her tits aren't big enough, are you serious?

Your allowed to have a negative opinion, but when that opinion is rooted in misogyny and based on "wheres the tits??" "she doesn't look delicate enough!!" then no, you shouldn't expect that opinion to be respected.Β

πŸ‘: 2 ⏩: 1

Garnet-Frost In reply to NorthAzure [2018-12-21 03:12:26 +0000 UTC]

I have no problem with her being young, but ya gotta admit that artstyle...Oof...Interesting fact, people were comparing her to Thor's daughter because they both practically have the same design except, ya know, one actually looks like a girl and the other doesn't. In fact now that I think about it there is a teen version of Wonder Woman!

In the DC Superhero Girls show and even her teen design is better than She-Ra! XD OMG! How did I even forget such a potent fact of DC doing a better job than the staff of the She-Ra show. Also are you seriously gonna use the "muh misogyny" argument on me?! XD God, people like are just a hoot! I'll say this, I would respect the show if the character designs, dialogue, character personality and development, and plots were good, but they're not.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

NorthAzure In reply to Garnet-Frost [2018-12-21 23:04:44 +0000 UTC]

No I really don't have to admit that the art style is 'oof' .-.
The characters were very expressive and considering the budget they had they worked wonders.

Her design looks nothing like Thor's daughter, who, by the way - has RIDICULOUS pointed breast armour. THIS is poor character design. The fact you flatter THIS is pathetic.
Not only is this drawn incorrectly, armour only works when it is set away from the body. Its meant to absorb the kinetic energy before impact to avoid blunt trauma.Β
By putting the area RIGHT UP AGAINST THE BREASTS it gives exactly 0 protection. A woman wearing a suit of armour should look literally no different from a man in a suit of armour because thats how armour works.

You complimenting Torunn's design just goes to show how bad your taste is.

Of course a teen wonder woman exists. You think that in the thousands of iterations they've done of the character she wouldn't have been drawn at different ages? are you serious?

She-ra's characters are expressive and enjoyable. The designs are a MASSIVE upgrade from the 1985 version (which I doubt you had any investment in anyways) and to be frank, your opinion is blatantly misogynistic. Your bending over backwards to insult good designs so honestly, get out of whatever bubble your in and start to question your garbage, debased opinions.

Garnet-Frost In reply to NorthAzure [2018-12-22 01:38:52 +0000 UTC]

Blah, blah, blah...Actually thinks this argument is about boobs instead of about making good animation and hates artistic expression...Blah, blah, blah...Can't stand the idea of a female character actually looking like girl which is misogynistic in itself and says I have bad taste, but doesn't give a good reason why...Blah, blah, blah...Uses the muh misogyny argument despite the fact I'm a girl...Blah, blah, blah...You done?...Good.

Also look how nice that picture looks because you can see how much hard work and detail went into it. It looks way better than She-man---I-I mean She-ra. Anyway, enjoy the few seasons the show is going to get due to low ratings.

I can pretty much do anything I want. I don't hate it, I just find it amazing watching people defend a show with such low quality. Little Witch Academia is a Netflix anime and it's really good and you can tell some heart has went into the show. The same can be said about Voltron, despite the fact I'm not crazy about that either. It makes me wonder what went wrong with She-Ra?

I fuckin' LOVE that she looks like she could actually wield a sword rather than just a magical waif. I absolutely love that there's so much variation in all the character designs of that show, and none of them have to conform to any one notion of feminine or masculine. It's a real breath of fresh air and I adore(ADORA) your take on her <3Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hawberries In reply to nekophoenix [2018-12-20 22:50:25 +0000 UTC]

right?? i love magical waifs, but we all know why they're so ubiquitous. it's refreshing and fun to have a woman with actual visible muscles, who has combat abilities, but is still allowed to be feminine and girly. very few action series pull this off, and the reason spop does is BECAUSE there's such a good variety of different female characters!!

Your description shows you don't understand why people upset. You can say shit all you want. But people have the right judge the story and looks. People are giving it a chance and want to like it. But they can't force them themselves to like it. Calling them cowards and saying she has bigger arms then them is childish. At least the people who judge this show are ay least saying if you like it then that's fine. They don't call you stupid for liking it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

hawberries In reply to Victini07 [2018-12-19 07:36:56 +0000 UTC]

pal, nobody has to like the show if they don't want to. i personally can explain a dozen things wrong with the storyboading, direction, vfx, writing and pacing. but the specific critique i see the most often is "she-ra's design is too masculine, she looks like a man, the creators can't draw girls." not all critiques and judgements are created equal, and i'm going to call a stupid opinion for what it is.

i understand exactly why people are upset about she-ra's design looking masculine: because they want all female protagonists to fit neatly into the established standard for feminine beauty. they want her to be attractive in the traditional sense. this critique is bad on two levels:

1) the assertion that just because she-ra has visible muscles, she is MASCULINE or LOOKS LIKE A MAN. in fact, her flowing hair, narrow waist and delicate face, as well as the values and lessons she embodies – kindness in the face of adversity, celebration of emotional vulnerability – are all quite traditionally feminine, but people who have sexist values are extremely fragile and cannot stand to so much as seen a thick eyebrow on a woman without claiming that she is now BASICALLY A MAN, and

2) women who are masculine exist – indeed, women who may "look like men" exist. women with short hair, stocky muscles and body hair exist. all manner of girls and women exist who do not fit into the traditional standards for feminine beauty, and yet they are women, and they deserve to be celebrated also. to design a female protagonist who is masculine is not a failing or a flaw inherent unto itself. you are entitled to prefer shows that only have pretty feminine protagonists. but that speaks volumes about you, and most of those volumes are not favourable.

also if you think nobody has called me stupid for liking the show you are either very optimistic or deeply naive lmfaooo
