Wow! Where do I begin with this piece?I've actually haven't been feeling well as of personal problems have been taking their toll on me. Without using other forms of vices, such as alcohol and self-harm, I wanted to use the only love I have keeps me happy and that is photography. I was looking around for certain spots around my town to shoot this picture and found one around 2 minutes from my place. It started raining hard and with a tripod and phone in hand, I just let instinct take its course and shoot what I felt at the time.
Yes, this picture is VERY personal but as an artist, it allows me to express myself.

The scenery, black and white, your posing, I think everything works together to create this rather... may I call it hopeless/desperate atmosphere? If I were walking by this scene, it would make me wanna come closer and ask if I can help somehow...
I really don't know what else to say, except that I'm glad you took this way instead of using alcohol and other things to get over this feeling.

This shot has striked me when I saw it. I took time, and it gave me opportunity to contemplate, and think.
This is where I particularly like your shot. Because "despite" the use of a cellphone, you managed to shot a very intimate and personal photography, with meanings, and to me this is the most important: the medium (here the cellphone) doesn't matter. Especially when you have a vision, a use of photography to express yourself and to give eternity to a view, a vision, a feeling, a state of mind.
The composition is perfect, the light management and the 1/25e grabs light enough to give a great contrast between the white and black parts of the shot, without loosing details in the dark areas. Which is really great.
You had a great sense of scenery founding this place. Urban and ground invaded by leaves and earth to get you positioned in this mix of our two worlds, our world. You manage to express here a dualism getting united by you, making the link between these two aspects. It can help showing your state of mind, your expression of your personal problems.
I really like your shot Monsieur, and yes: art, photography here, are the greatest ways of expressing oneself sensitivity and vision.

I am impressed with the lack of colors; it's really effective.
I personally really like this silent technique of making art and find yours
majestic! The dominant image really stands out in the picture,
but there's no mistaking there's atmosphere in his surrounding.

The personal demons are the worst ones. I don't even know where to start to express my feelings of this picture. You have real talent to capture what people just overlook. Your picture shows that you really are alone in moments of dispair, agony or else. No one can help you, you have to cope with it alone. Even if you have someone, who is tyring to help you, he/she won't feel what you feel. And you can give in into alcohol/self-harm or you can fight. But that fight takes so much. I can really relate to your picture. Life sometimes isn't about what you want, it's about what you get and how you deal with it... <- I hear that a lot from my doctors since my accident and it kind of fits to your picture.
I like the composition of your work. The figure isn't in the middle, that gives it the "out of the line" feeling. And that black and white effect just cuts out everything that's not necessery. And sometime in such a mood, you just see "black and white". I also like the bright clothes, they are giving a good contrast.

You really can feel the emotional disorder in this Picture, and also, the Black-White Effect adds a very special feeling to it
Also the Person on the Picture Is by far lighter than the enviorement around him.

Thanks. The person in the picture is me. I didn't change into darker pants and just did it on a whim. If I knew I was going to take pictures, I would have changed. The rain was pouring hard and had an undershirt on. Thank you for the kind words. I will try to be positive!

Woooww this is very emotional!! I really love the scene, the pose, and the way u make the picture black and white... they give certain atmosphere, that I can feel the despair just by glancing at the picture!! how nice!!
Hmm if there's something that can be improved from this picture, I guess it would be the sky. I feel the bright sky quite contradicts the negative emotions emanating from this piece, it would be better if u can manipulate the sky to rather darker or cloudy, or take the photo from different angle to crop the sky. But it's just a small detail, and it's just an opinion based on preference ^^ I think this picture is already great without it.
Oh, and did u edit this picture before posting it? I don't do photography, but a friend of mine once taught me to use lightroom, and I really love the feature "lens-correction" and "post-crop". It can give shade on the edges of the picture, therefore emphasize more to the center of the picture (the focus). It something like this --> static.squarespace.com/static/…

Thing is I had in mind to crop it but being a cellphone snapshot, it would of ruined the quality. Yes, I did edit it with Lightroom using my phone's raw feature. The reason why I didn't add the vignette or the "shades on the edges" is because it ruins the picture and the dark vignette would of looked weird. The picture you showed me displays how adding vignette in a dark room adds to the effect but being that this picture is taken outside, it would of ruined it.
Besides, the white itself is from the sky as it was actually raining and it really added the effect. The ONLY thing I wish the sky had was DEEP DARK GRAY Clouds. Either way, I didn't want to edit the picture too much and photo manipulate as it would take away the emotion from the picture and/or it would look too fake.
