Great way to torment yourself, Haychel... I guess I have to move away from the computer, and Pokemon for now haha...Anyway, regarding the cameos, please don't panic if you only see one of your members, or if you notice they look a bit different. In multiple occasions, I may only use one or two of your team members, and I may change their appearance according to my own style.
On side notes, please tell me if you would like to see the cameo list here, or elsewhere. It is quite long and I'm afraid it may affect your browsing experience...

I think you should start with the fundamental skills, things like anatomy and color unity. There are tons of tutorials here in DA, read a bunch of them and practice what you've learnt. It doesn't matter if you're practicing it with traditional arts, as digital arts basically work the same way.
Then, you could go on with choosing a digital painting program. There are a lot of choices around, but as far as I know, Sai painter and Photoshop are the two mainstream programs.
But really, practicing is the most crucial part of all, if you ask me.
