Description The demonic bat that wields sound as his weapon, Sotz

AKA: the Sound Demon, the Devil's Voice, the Song of Chaos, the Tone of Carnage
Height: 80 meters
Wingspan: 150 meters
Mass: 25,000 tons
Rank: 4

Description:
Sotz is an oddity. Kaijuologist are puzzled about his origins, but most agree that he likely comes from a place similar to Fenris's homeland. It's not hard to believe. The bat is vicious and bloodthirsty, and it's unnatural use of sound makes many label it as a supernatural beast. Anyone who has seen the bat at night would surely agree to that claim. His emotionless black eyes and red-tinted fur glow crimson under the moonlight. He can bend and mold sound into infinite shapes, weapons forming from his very voice. Despite the fact that Sotz relies upon raw strength and brutality in battle, he's actually very cunning. He has as much brain as brawn. He's very aware, and considers himself to be the highest of all life. When he fights, it with his head held high and his lips curled in contempt. He firmly believes himself better than all around him. Select factions of primitive people seem to believe this too, for the devil bat is worshiped in isolated sections of Central and South America as a living god. He will even sometimes make personally appearances at rituals of his praise. He seems to enjoy the attention and has been observed watching his worshipers from high above. Whether it is a watchful gaze or a hungry one has yet to be revealed. Although Sotz often finds himself fighting against enemies of Earth, he is not Mankind's friend. He despises all humans who don't bow down in praise of him.

Sotz has a fierce rivalry with Chptera. He's furious that a creature with such a similar form to him would actually defend humans. But, he is also intelligent enough to pair himself with the smaller bat when the moment calls of it. Not that he enjoys these rare instances though. He also hates Opter, the great bug his primary rival for rule over the skies. The two are almost constantly in feud over territory and prey. Even if Sotz favors tropical lands and Opter arid ones, such dominant aerial carnivores simply can't coexist peacefully.

Powers:
-Sonic Fangs: Sotz has a mouthful of long, thick, sharp teeth that can gouge and carve flesh with ease, the devil bat possessing the world's second most devastating bite, his jaws only trailing behind Mr. Grin's monstrous bite in terms of sheer devastation; he can also form sonic spears around his fangs to double their length, a low, haunting song echoing from his throat and the air warping around his mouth; these teeth of pure sound can saw into flesh just as readily as they pierce them, their tips constantly vibrating and shaking
-Pincer Claws: the wicked claws on Sotz's thumbs and index fingers are potent weapons, unusually flexible and muscled for tearing and slashing; he has even been known to grapple and club foes with these dexterous digits
-Great Hooks: Sotz's broad wings can cup and curl like a set of massive claws, the bat about to swing them about at foes like the paws of a gigantic beast; also capable of wrapping around foes like smothering sheets, suffocating and crushing enemies until they can take breath no more
-Talons: Sotz has unusually powerful legs for a bat, making his wicked talons deadly weapon for slashing, stabbing, and seizing hapless victims with
-Demon Voice: Sotz's main weapon is an odd one- sound; Sotz can emit powerful sonic blasts, destructive wails of shredding wind, or forceful barks that burst eardrums; this sound is so dense, it acts as a solid object, yet malleable enough to take any shape; Sotz can create blades of sound, using them for huge swipes and slashes, spit a barbed sonic spear from his gullet, or launch a volley of invisible arrows from his open jaws; he can also move or lift objects with his incredible voice, his terrifying song wrapping around tangible objects like a net
-Soundshifter: Sotz is not only a deadly brawler, but a cunning illusionist; weaving and stringing together sound like threads, the demonic bat can creature disguises, make himself look larger or take a different shape, or even vanish altogether; the sense of smell cannot be tricked by these sonic sheets and costumes, but sight, touch, and hearing are easy victims to the bat's trickery
-Cama: Sotz most terrifying power is that to summon a strange, independent being of pure sound from deep within the Earth, known simply as 'Cama'; rising from earth shattered by the bat's monstrous voice, this animated shriek is invisible and untouchable, but can shred flesh and batter foes like any living creature armed with jaws and claws; some claim that it is a feeble incarnation of an evil god, a literal devil that Sotz dwells under, while others say that Sotz himself is merely a fleshy puppet and Cama is the true being
-Sonar: Sotz possesses a powerful form of echolocation, giving him a perfect degree of awareness even in pitch black conditions
-Super Senses: Sotz's senses of smell and hearing are both phenomenal, only augmenting his perfect sonar
-Flight: Sotz is a powerful aerial predator, diving, spinning, and looping to outmaneuver large foes and smash smaller creatures out of the sky completely

Bio:
Sotz appeared suddenly and mysteriously, very similar to how Fenris came into this world. After a small volcano is South American erupted, a huge creature resembling a spectral bat exploded from the crater. Because the beast fit descriptions of the evil Mayan god Camazots, it was called Sotz, after an alias of Zots. Taking over the skies of the world, Sotz destroyed planes, leveled high-altitude settlements, and tried to claim every mountaintop on the planet as his own. On his travels, he came into brief conflicts with Spars and Skollarg, who both call a mountain home. Shockingly, the bat toppled both. Spars was no match for such a furious flier, and Skollarg was outclassed in the air. Forcefully relocating both giants, Sotz seemed to be the undisputed lord of the sky now.

But two other kaiju rose up to meet him. The first was no surprise- Chptera. The other bat- a defender- met Sotz over the icy tundra of Siberia. The two clashed in a violent scuffle, Chpterian energy scrorching Sotz, and wickedly sharp claws and teeth tearing into Chptera. As the two circled one another, a third beats joined the brawl.

Vampyrum.

The vampiric kaiju had survived its unfortunate encounter with Plume, and was now ready to throw his own name into the contest for reign over the heavens. A spectacular three-way battle began, each bat using its own special abilities to their fullest. Sotz, homing in on the smaller target, slammed into Vampyrum, hacking at the smaller bat with his claws and fangs. The vampiric beast put up a good fight, permanently scarring Sotz's wings with its blade-like claws, but couldn't stand up to the full fury of the Underworld. Perishing violently under a bloody savaging, Vampyrum crashed to the ground limply as Sotz pulled sharply up.

This time, he was truly dead.

As Sotz's swooped back up to deal with Chptera, the airborne protector loosed her ultimate attack. Unleashing as the energy she had gathered from the late Vampyrum's nasal ray, the fruit bat battered Sotz with a devastating Chpterian Pulse. Battered badly with the blast of raw energy, Sotz retreated, limping through the air.

For days after her debut, Opter ruled the sky, her reign unchallenged. Between her speed and fierceness, she was practically untouchable. But then the bug decided to settle down in Mexico, perhaps hoping to start a nest or hive. The sky's other greatest predator wouldn't allow that. Finally able to catch up to the lightning fast bug, Sotz attacked Opter high above the desert. The two dove into a spectacular dogfight, both fighting furiously. Sotz had the clear weaponry and power advantage, but Opter could fly circles around him. With the battle going no where, Quetzar and Chptera decided to step in. The two guardians stormed the battle, taking the Sotz and Opter by surprise. Quetzar took on the task of chasing down Opter, while Chptera was left to fight Sotz again. While the bats bickered viciously, Quetzar and Opter engaged in a dynamic chase, the bug leading the dragon. This deadly game was stretched out for almost an hour, but one small slip-up from Opter was all it took. With a quick gout of fire, the insect was set aflame and crashed down into the dry terrain below. Quetzar then returned to help his partner, who has struggling against Sotz. With out the extra energy from Vampyrum, the noble mammal wasn't fairing as well as last time. In fact, she was being soundly beaten. But when Quetzar arrived to support his friend and ally, the demonic bat decided to retreat. He had come to deal with Opter, and she was grounded for now.

When Ullraldi launched his war on the Earth, Koatl and Sunblaze fought against Quetzar and Chptera in the skies over Japan. The two sides fought bitterly, but neither could best the other. Quetzar and Koatl had always been equals and Sunblaze, although weaker in firepower, was more agile than Chptera in the air. They weren't the only giants in the sky though. Able to escape Ullraldi's ice warriors by taking to the wild blue yonder, Sotz and Opter were attracted by the duel. Although Sotz hated both Chptera and Opter, he was intelligent enough to realize Koat, Sunblaze, and their allies were the greater threat. The bate joined forces with Opter and the two took over the fight with Sunblaze for Chptera, allowing her to go to Quetzar. The demon bat and the sonic bug fought together, the speedy and maneuverable Opter constantly driving the bird into the brutal claws of Sotz. Sunblaze quickly found he no longer enjoyed the battle. He tried to flee, but Opter dive-bombed him with a sonic boom that hurled the bird down-

- right into Sotz's lethal Cama.

The animated shriek engulfed Sunblaze like a furious twister, shredding flesh and dowsing bright plumage with crimson. Rendered to a blood heap of ragged feathers, the avian bio-weapon plunged, slamming down into the ground. Swooping down upon the miserable flier, Sotz ended the suffering Sunblaze with a flash of his fangs, the bird's throat laid open and bleeding his life out into the soil. In a rare moment of fairness, the bat allowed Opter to land and take her portion of the kill before seizing his own half of the carcass and whisking it away to somewhere more private.

When Skathe erupted from her mountain lair in pursiut of Alex Shepheard, Sotz happened to by nearby and attacked the dragon, another threat to his rule over the skies. Battling in midair, the bat and the dragon tore into each other with their claws and fangs, showering the mountain below with their blood. Skathe, still weary from her great slumber and out of practice, soon found herself defending more than attacking, Sotz slowly gaining the upper hand. With no patience for a battle just yet and knowing her human was escaping, the dragoness loosed a great cloud of smoke. The dark smog engulfed the demonic bat, blocking his echolocation and spearing his flesh like a tempest of razors. While the bat staggered in midair, pelt bloody and shredded, Skathe abandoned the fight and chased after Alex, following his scent. Sotz tried to follow, but his heavy injuries slowed him down too much and he was forced to head back to one of his own perches for recovery.

One of the earliest sightings of Lockjaw was during a territorial dispute between Sotz and Opter. Both wanting the same patch of prime hunting territory, the bug and the bat clashed, trading brutal blows and flybys. Appearing below them, the strange new creature laughed and loosed a barrage of colorful blast that painted the two aerial predators like a rainbow. Furious, Sotz dove after the oddball. Squealing, the mysterious beast turned a cowardly yellow and hit the ground, clamping his jaw around a rock embedded in the soil. Snatching up the reptile's tail, Sotz tried to heave the beast up. But however hard he strained, wings pummeling the air, the bat just could life the joker without uprooting the boulder as well. Giving up as Lockjaw laughed through the rock and pulsed a spectrum of mocking tones. Screaming for blood, Sotz released the thing and rose up in preparation of an attack. The reptile sprung away and fled before he could strike though. When out on hunts, the bats still keeps special eye one for the beast that humiliated him so much.

While Sotz tore through clouds of Nentuson beasts during the Nentuson'd final move on Earth, he sensed two foes nearby, one new, one familiar. Judging the new foe- a High Strider attacking Australia- a bigger threat, the demon bat joined the familiar foe- Chptera- en route for the alien beast. Although the two bats were fierce rivals, the demonic flier knew when to pick his battles. Now, they flew in partnership, not battle. Confronting the High Strider plaguing the great island, the two winged mammals tried a variety of tactics, but the tough beast was resilient to both physical and energy attacks. Even the mighty Chpterian pulse failed to take the alien creature down. Out of desperation, the bats tried something new. Summoning his most power attack, Sotz directed the vicious whirl of solid sound known as Cama to surround the Strider. Hurling a Chpterian blast into the Cama, a vortex of rainbow power was born, the energized whirl tearing the High Strider apart. Their partnership over, the two bats went in separate directions to destroy more Nentuson Beasts.

Background Information: Sotz is a tribute to the Silverwing series by Kenneth Oppel. His design is based on the villain, Goth, who is a false cannibal bat. His powers are based on the sound-based skills of the main character, Shade. And finally, his name and the 'Cama' attack are based on the main antagonising force, Cama Zots, Goth's god who is made purely of sound. He's basically one big tribute.

The fur on his chest looks better too, much more bat-like than the previous version's.

But of course: what else would he be using to rip little silver bat kaiju asunder?

It's funny, the thin 'mane' and fur going down his torso were inspired by Jim Carrey's Grinch look.

A good revamp. Always had a soft spot for the Silverwing series and tribute kaiju in general.

I have to say, Goth would be proud to have such a monstrous tribute. Or maybe insulted, I'm not really sure. LOL

Anyways, it's good to see a spectral/ghost bat kaiju for a change, vampire bats have pretty much lost all of their flair over the years of excessive use as monsters. It's pretty funny how few people know that such large, predatory bats as spectrals and mastiffs exist, but it's always good to spread the word via terrifying giant monsters.

Great detail on the creature, hands down and the source of Silverwing is great too. I always liked the False Vampire Bats in the cartoon, having so much value to the. I only wish the series didnt loop in such few episodes... what as shame.
And more points that you made a Bat kaiju to begin with. I couldn't do it, I know, I tried.
