Thanks! A lot of people seem to think standing up to Lucy has to mean revenge but I think they're both better than that. I like the idea that they might become genuinely good friends through mutual teasing instead.

Oh, I'd say they HAVE always been good friends. Lucy has been pushing Chuck forward to shape up and he did so by standing up to the wall she is. In her own "Van Pelt" way she has Β also been a confident as faithful as Linus. She is the friend every Charlie Brown needs and your strips kinda shows up that he knows it well.

Maybe... I think they care about each other a lot, and would both fight very hard for each other when pushed (maybe even moreso than the rest of the cast all things considered), but you have to admit there's a certain genuine animosity between them. Charlie Brown insults Lucy on the baseball field, she insults him off it, most of it is /not/ good-natured. I think you're totally right about Lucy being the kind of friend Charlie Brown needs, she's brutally honest with him but cuts him slack as well (kind of the opposite of other characters who are more passive but also hard on him), but she also falters in this just because she's a kid, you know? Like, while she gives him a lot of actual good advice, sometimes she doesn't give him advice at all! Neither can be blamed for the tension between them because they are kids, but it's still there, you know?
So, I mean, clearly they're friends, but I don't think they're very good at it yet! Haha.
