I hate the doctor, but I think Iβd hate a vet more.
Poor scared little Theodore.

Theodore hasn't been neglecting to gnaw daily, has he? He not only eats too much, but eats too many soft foods. Filing his incisors down to normal would hurt his gums. Dave should dry all their bread; rock hard bread to munch on should be see them through their day.

Every once in a while during episodes I get the impression that they all purposefully skirt around the subject. Like when Dave is telling Alvin what to do and Alvin tries to protest but then agrees (whether he's lying or not). If he were human I imagine he could be more rebellious, and simply tell off Dave and ignore his orders; but since he's an animal he's at Dave's mercy more than a human kid and the consequences could be worse if he doesn't try and downplay his bad behavior with lying and sneaking around and justifications.
Not that I think Dave would like, do anything genuinely bad to them or anything like that, but Dave's never had any other children and he wouldn't be aware of any imbalances they have that purely human families don't. If Dave were to mistreat them even a little bit, how can they complain when he provides for them even though he doesn't necessarily have a responsibility to? (I mean he does, but you get my point.) Not to mention he and all the other humans in their lives are physically more intimidating than they will ever be.Β Also the fact that they don't realllly seem to have good friends other than themselves & the Chipettes? I think that might be another result of being chipmunks.
I'm almost sure it's actually illegal to own a chipmunk as a pet in California; so I think they probably are regarded as Dave's legal children. In the episode where the Chipettes are adopted by Miss Miller they are addressed basically like human kids. But I also highly doubt that they have all the rights and privileges as humans... Not sure what the legal difference would be since we don't have a lot of anthropomorphic animals in real life to compare them to, haha. But I'm sure it's not exactly the same, probably for reasons like this - going to a vet instead of a human doctor etc. Like maybe instead of social services they have to report to the humane society or something. Especially since they weren't adopted by normal means, they just showed up! I wonder what would happen if one of them wanted to marry a human or something? Do you think they could?

Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble.Β Β
I guess that thing in "Alvin's Oldest Fan" was more of a publicity stunt than anything else, where lots of people would be present and it wasn't a serious thing. In real life stuff like that happens but it's different because it's not like, an intimate thing. Just a celebrity thing! I don't know how Dave would react to them actually getting involved with humans in a serious way. He seems pretty open minded though! Haha.
