...Vs. the Egg Devil Ray

I knew I'd be drawing this one eventually, and I received one of those little nudges.

Notes:
-This turned out better than planned, and I'd say I'm pleased with it.
-Based on the 360/PS3 Version - If anything looks really odd, that's why.
-While working on this, I had to switch between the 3D and 2D concept art to get enough resources. Upon examination, I found the two to be more different than I thought. A couple of details may seem off as a result, and I'll just say this is a fusion between the Concept and Final versions.

Ahhh the Devil Ray, and easy boss for some, others it's harder than that damn Biolizard from SA2. It looked like it was hard to draw to me when I first fought it, but you did it almost perfectly. I like the blue energy, and the angle of the smaller components of the robot on the sides e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" /> Not to mention the shadow's were done fairly well.

Nice job on this boss. I love how you did the glowing effect it makes around it, making it all blurry and such like in the original, and the dash aura around Sonic is great too. I can also see that you included how Eggman doesn't pilot this one, but rather it's operated by a bunch of those hand-robot things, and I can see them in the pilot's seats too.

This was one of my most favorite bosses in Sonic Unleashed. What I liked the most about the Egg Devil Ray is that it reminded me of something you'd see in a Danmaku Style Shooting Game, such as Touhou or Dodonpachi or Ketsui or something. The way its bullet and laser patterns operate are awfully similar to something you'd see in those games, and its one of the few Sonic bosses to do that, (other than the Egg Shooter in Sonic Advance 2, which I also like). In fact, I've replayed this fight multiple times just because of how much I like it.

Nothing really.
The Egg Death Ray was my 2nd favouarte boss in the game, right next to the Egg Dragoon.

This is totally random, but the robot reminds me of the pokemon Rayquaza

I think this is one of the best peices colour wise, the shading is subtle.

Yep, 360 Unleashed.

I'm pleased with the colors as well - it took an interesting combination to make some of those shades.

Little by little, I'm picking up tips for realism.

I love this boss, but it disappointed me that it didn't look anything like a devil ray. All it really had that a devil ray does is those horns. It doesn't move like one, it doesn't have pectoral fins, and it has five dorsal fins (whereas a devil ray has none.) It's not really a valid reason to complain about it, but hey, I'm a huge stingray enthusiast as my name implies.

I've been finding the battle very cool to play with just the homing attack - I saw attack phases I never knew existed by playing that way.

I like the odd directions the 360/PS3 version took. Every step of the way, I thought it was going to use the exact elements the Wii/PS2 one did. It kept me guessing and was quite memorable.
I would've liked rock'em sock'em Gaias, though. And to personally kick Dark Gaia's butt. I wanna try that once.

Devil Moray sounds deliciously evil...
They'd need a good explanation for bringing the Werehog back, though. I don't think Sonic would be stupid enough to fall for the same "Super Sonic trapping, Emerald extracting, laser firing device" twice.

Most true. Now, why doesn't Eggman realize that if he wants any chance of beating Sonic, he needs to build nothing but "final" bosses, and not waste his building materials on weaklings like this?

I was thinking more along the lines of "Eggman piloting the mechs himself instead of having the lowest of the low of his robot forces doing the job". I mean, aren't these the robots the weakling hands that sometimes come out of the slightly less weak basic Egg robots? >__<

...even then, if it was final bosses, he'd have no chance! That's how Son do, nic.

Oh, of course. Silly me for not picking that up. Good point, though - It's not like Eggman was so busy that he couldn't take 5 minutes out of his schedule to get his butt handed to him by Sonic. Then again, we don't want a "Wii/PS2" situation - "You little! YOU LITTLE!"
