Description Gah, sorry for being MIA for like a decade. x_x I've been working on a farm for the whole summer, and haven't been getting access to a computer until recently. As for my commissions, those are still, unfortunately, left to suffer a little longer, lol. I tried completing one yesterday, and it was like I had lost all knowledge of how to properly draw. Not a really great feeling. Anyway, after sketching and doodling, I came up with, amongst other things, this guy. He really brought back my groove, teehee. :3
He's going to be a new char for my Double Dance Stables (HARPG.) Feel free to send me a DevNote if interested for a live cover.
Isn't he oh so sexy? But, man, I would so not like to be the one to shoe this guy's feet. xD
The ref for this drawing was of a grey Shire stud, can't find it again though. >.<

It feels so good to be drawing again!

Registered Name: DD Averill
Barn Name: Avery
Gender: Stallion
D.O.B.: 06/15/2003
Breed: Shire
Bloodline: Foundation import
Phenotype: Bay. He has about a medium-toned mud brown coat with dark points fading up past his knees/hocks, a dark grey muzzle rimmed ever so slightly by a faded brown color. Ear tips, sheath and around the eyes are also dark grey/black. He has a few varying shades of paler or darker brown, here and there (similar to mealy around the flank and girth, but he doesn't carry the pangaré/meal gene to our knowledge.) He also carries minimal sabino, so he has an uneven blaze, reaching out more to the left side of his face, some of it crossing partly over his left eye, and it ends on his lower chin. He also has jagged, tall white socks on all legs, except for the left hind, which is a stocking.
Eyes: Left eye is blue with a fleck of brown, and the right is all-brown.
Genotype: EE / Aa / nSb
Height: 20.1hh
Build: A clossal giant of a tank. He's monstrously large, with a staggering frame, broad shoulders, a deep chest, a droopy roman nose, a chunky muzzle, small eyes, a massive, arched neck, straight, long legs, a strong back, muscular hindquarters, a nicely rounded rump, large joints, fat, hard hooves, and a ridiculous abundance of feather at his feet, thick and curly, starting from the base of his knees/hocks and flowing down to cover his hooves almost entirely. Almost all of his features are soft, masculine, big and rounded. His mane is long, thick and wavy, and his tail has been docked short. He is certainly one of the tallest equine specimens we have seen to date.
Breeder: N/A
Owner/trainer: *Hazel-rah of Double Dance.
Temperament: He came to us a little skittish (and, you can imagine the hassle and annoyance of handling a ton stallion with that personality), but after settling in to our luxurious stables and lush pastures, he quickly came out of his shell and showed us his true colors. Below that giant, towering frame lies a gentle, sweet, well-mannered, kind-hearted soul. Avery is great with kids, and lets them crawl around him, jump up and down on his back, pull his whiskers, play with his ears, scream, run around, hang on to his mane, brush him all over, play with his feathers, etc. Whenever there are toddlers near him, he remains stock-still and will not budge unless the child is removed, because he doesn't want to step on or injure the kid. He was also amazingly easy to break-in to ride. He's a fast learner, is willing, and will not be hesitant to do as you ask. If, however, he is skeptical of something, or senses danger ahead, he will refuse to move, and might even neigh to you in concern. Which is a desirable trait, because we plan on eventing him in driving, and while we train him on our premises, we would like him to warn us if the cargo he is pulling is too wide for a certain obstacle. He is extremely safe, quick-thinking, intelligent, docile, and wise. He is also great with other horses, and doesn't really go into a 'frenzied-stallion' state of mind when he sees other mares or studs near him. Now that he has gained back his confidence, though, he is a bit more studly, and will enjoy showing off for spectators, with a lofty trot and arched neck. He loves a cheering, applauding audience, too. He virtually has no vices, either. He doesn't crib, rock, paw, call, attack, bite, or try to escape. You could even probably keep the door to his stall open and he'd stay there until being led out by a handler. He does like to lip at people and play with them using his tongue and muzzle, however.
History: While one of our staff members was on an outing in the English countryside, they stumbled upon a run-down ranch where an elderly farmer worked the plows using a few of his Shire horses, personally bred by his family through the centuries. One of them was Avery, an enormous behemoth, even compared to the other work horses. The owner spoke little, and his accent was too bizarre for us to make out much of the information he was giving us, but after a bit of persuasion, we managed to buy the then-3-year-old colt from him. He wasn't in excellent shape, and he had a few wounds from being overworked at a young age, but after being imported to our stables, and with a lot of TLC, patience and time, he grew taller, filled out, became very docile, and is now a true wonderhorse. We plan on continuing the training of this gentle giant in the driving/draftwork and halter fields to compete him eventually.
Discipline(s): Halter, Driving
Awards & Winnings: N/A
Offspring:
MMH Brigadier Thyme (dun sabino Georgian Grande colt, out of MMH Tyger Lily , owned by ~x-bonfire-x );
DD Blythe (black sabino Shire filly, out of Adamine , owned by *Hazel-rah ).
Restrictions: Must be bred to realistic colored, pure Shire mares only (please DevNote me to discuss otherwise.) Also, the foal's name should ideally (not obligatorily) start with the letter "B", seeing as how he's a Foundation horse, the start of a new line, and future purebred Shire descendants should be named alphabetically.
Availability: Currently available for private bookings. PM me to see if your mare is approved, if you're interested.

And, he's only the second tallest Shire (or realistic horse; I'm not sure) on the game, to my knowledge. xD But, yes, he's a little on the insanely colossal size. I initially only wanted him at around 19.2 or something, but when I saw that someone was bold enough to get a 21hh non-fantasy HARPG horse, I thought I'd be over-the-top, too.
Thanks!

Yeah, I created a Gypsy Vanner stallion a while ago that was 19hh and I got protests because of it. People kept telling me that Vanners couldn't get that big, but really... there's no limit. xD
It kinda ticked me off, but I kept it anyway because big horses are pretty darn close to love, heh. x)
And you're always welcome, Hazel. (:

Ooh, Vanners. Yeah, that would definitely get people riled up. Especially those know-it-all breeders. x) To a lot of people, GVHs can't get bigger than 14-15hh (I guess they don't consider the 'Grand' type as a.. well, type? xP), or at least, that's the ideal standard that people should aim to breed for.
I swear, though, if the norm would be like Shires/Clydes (18-20+hh), I would've totally picked Vanners as my draft of choice for my HARPG barn, instead of Shires. I pretty much only picked Shires 'cause they're the biggest breed of horse, teehee. And I love size. But, if I could breed titanic GVHs, while staying realistic to real-life standards and stuff, and still not making the HARPG public go 'asplode', I'd really have chosen 'em. Colored drafties are love.
It's too bad that most only come in the cob variety, and tons of players seem to think they can/should only come in that size.

Shires are the biggest horses? Hmm, I learned something new today. xD I always thought it was the Belgian horse.
But yeah, I knew someone a while back who had a Vanner stallion that was, no lie, 19.2hh. Absolutely stellar stallion. He was massive, but so easy to work with.
Vanner stallions actually average at about 17hh, but the breed rules do say there's no limit, so when people mentioned his height, it got annoying to constantly have to repeat it. Really though, for any horse (such as Vanners, Shires, Belgians, and most other draft breeds) I guess you could say there really is no limit to how big they can get. As long as it remains realistic, lol.

Nah, maybe weight-wise, since Belgians are often stockier, and so probably on the heavier side for their height, but height-wise, I'm pretty positive Shires are the ones to beat. I think the tallest Belgian was a little over 19.3, but the tallest horse ever was a Shire, if my memory serves me right. 21.2hh or something crazy. x)

And, holy wow. A 19.2hh Vanner stud. That must be se-ke-say. After this conversation, I kind of want to convert to Vanners. Screw what the nay-sayers say! I'll have my 20hh GVH eventually. Hm, out of curiosity, I wonder what would happen if I'd cross Shires with GVHs to bring height and color. That would make a Gypsy Drum, right? *ponders* Hmm, I don't like crosses, though, to be frank..

Ooooh, I hope you do get one! That would be fantastic. x) And I do think you should convert to Vanners, haha. Amazing, beautiful breed I have to say.
And yes, a Gypsy x Shire would give you a Drum horse. Though like you, I prefer purebreds.
