Description

Oh man! I'm still processing what happened in our last D&D session...

This past weekend our group had a liveplay at a convention, the team battled zombies and faced a dreadful Flameskull, who was responsible for raising the dead in the cave we were in.

All was going well until the darn thing blasted a giant Fireball spell at us! Our Cleric Reverend Theo nearly died. And sadly our Goblin buddy Droop, whom my character, Kallista, had helped and kept safe up to this point, was instantly killed by the fire.

He was an NPC played by our DM but damn, this character helped us out in horrible situations, guided us to the place we had to be and stuck with us through it all with a grin. I'm genuinely upset! XD Couldn't take the thought from my head so I had to portray my point of view of how it went down.

At least it wasnt Wild Magic... While entertaining and chaotic (which is so me) it can cause issues like this.... except it would be centered on me..... May the fireball Wild Surge never happen......

Our party practically adopted Droop as our own, but we didn’t end up taking him to Wave Echo Cave with us, with it being so dangerous and him being so sweet and gentle. And it’s good we didn’t, cause we came incredibly close to not only pc deaths but a tpk... luckily we all pulled through, but if we had taken droop there’s no way he would have survived. We all loved him so much that just seeing an alternate droop not being so lucky hurts my heart lol. This looks absolutely amazing! So much emotion and that lighting is epic!

That was probably the best thing we could've done too. He came with us all the way and at some point before we came to Wave Echo Cave my character Kallista asked him to stay out because it was too dangerous, but this sweet boy wanted to help so badly and was attached to me already so he tagged along. It made me so upset because of the connection the two had, half of my teammates didn't want to help him when was being bullied but I convinced them to since that hit close to home for my character.

Damn, next session when finish talking to Black Spider's lady friend we're going to give Droop a hero's burial, I demand it! XD

So glad to hear that in other campaigns such as yours he's alive and well.

And thank you!

Aww no sweet little Droop! So sad, but there's potential get some really good character moments at least. And yes, a hero's funeral is demanded!Β

Thank you Demos! ;w;

Our cleric Reverend Theo has a Revivify scroll that I found, but I doubt the team will agree on reviving Droop when one of us could die.

Our Cleric is still alive, thankfully. The Goblin Droop was an NPC.

Oh, man, I remember DMing that encounter! We were lucky in the fact that A) our fighter had a Str of 18 and managed to successfully grapple the flameskull, and B) our cleric could cast Silence to prevent the flameskull from casting any spells. That combo worked nicely in defeating him.

Droop was a beloved member of our party as well, and luckily survived the campaign and ended up staying with the party in later campaigns. One campaign found the party fighting a big group of bandits in the woods, and Droop was hiding out on the sidelines. Unfortunately the bandit chief caught sight of him and grabbed him as a hostage, knife at throat, and I swear to god I've never seen the entire party go as serious as they did at that moment. They were all freaking out, trying to quickly concoct a plan to save Droop.

Our tiefling warlock, Yog (who was basically Droop's BFF) remembered a small bag of sand he'd given Droop a long time ago, and told him telepathically to reach into his pocket, open the pouch, grab a handful of sand, and throw it into the bandit chief's eyes. I was sweating bullets as I rolled Droop's sleight of hand check against the bandit chief's perception, and had every intention of killing Droop if he failed (which I really didn't want to do, because we all loved Droop). Luckily Droop was marginally successful and the bandit chief dropped him, allowing him to run away and the party to move in and exact their revenge.

Oh man, that is amazing indeed! It's so wonderful to know that many other groups had the character with them and cared for him too.

Welp, in our campaign he wasn't so lucky this time, but damn he was amazing until this point. We'll be giving him a proper burial of a hero once we deal with Black Spider's lady friend who just appeared after this encounter.

Part of us isn't sure if he did it on purpose or if was totally accidental, the spell did get four of our team of six. I got lucky because of my resistance to fire, but damn the poor boy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GogglesPizano In reply to HazuraSinner [2019-10-15 17:35:43 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, if the NPC was controlled by him, he probably knew the odds of that fireball wrecking shit was gonna be very high.

But then again outside of the most recent DM I have had, all the DMs I've had have been kinda ruthless. Like, not to the point of being straight up team killing dicks, but they don't do us any favors and if we make mistakes, we pay. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazuraSinner In reply to GogglesPizano [2019-10-15 18:04:25 +0000 UTC]

It also depends of how us players play our turns.

Our DM is a cool guy, he's fair in general and makes a specific player behave when he's trying to be a knows it all.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GogglesPizano In reply to HazuraSinner [2019-10-15 18:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Sounds nice. We had one DM that always used werewolves. One that always used our wording against us so we have to be more clear/specific. And one who had blood thirsty dice that always rolled good and wanted us dead. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazuraSinner In reply to GogglesPizano [2019-10-15 18:13:31 +0000 UTC]

Goodness gracious that's rough. XD

We're also going easy because this is a test campaign for all players (except me, I've played a few times before and know most of the basics) to know the basics of the game. Because we're starting a new campaign soon and we'll begin streaming it online.

GogglesPizano In reply to HazuraSinner [2019-10-15 18:16:06 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh, yeah nah. Our group has been playing. 2 years solid in college and then on and off the past couple years. We like to fuck with each other and stuff but it's all in good fun. Though since I was new it wasn't necessarily going easy on me.

One time I played a cleric for the first time and used an area healing spell for the group... and the DM also said it healed the enemies too. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazuraSinner In reply to GogglesPizano [2019-10-16 11:34:28 +0000 UTC]

Ah that's cool then. XD

Hey that's a dickish move! But well played since you didn't know, but usual area effects allows you to pick the creatures you want to apply the magic to. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GogglesPizano In reply to HazuraSinner [2019-10-16 15:39:47 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I didn't know ANY of that since that was like. My first game ever and I just played a healer. XD

It's all in good fun, they didn't go too over board and usually when one of the other DMs was playing, that meant we had one or two of the other ones in our group so they battled sneaky with sneaky. XD
