I misread the title as "Bearded Elf," and I was about to be like, " UM INACCURATE?!"
Lol
But this is fabulous! I just love the softness of the color and the nobility of his face and his expressions!

Very impressiv! I love this monocolour style, and I like the way you caught the expresion of a beaten one, especially of an elf, because they are hardly beaten.

He's beautiful, highly detailed, and this emotion is captured wonderfully. My only question is, does he have a mate? Giving him one would be awesome...perhaps that is who he is thinking of? I'd love to see him with another.

Well executed. The simplicity of the palette really draws attention to the skill used in the linework.

*does the found another great artist on DA dance*
I've been following your work for a long while, and I'm really glad to have found you here on DA! This is lovely, and I see you're still the best at drawing gorgeous elf-men.
Those little beads of blue just SO make this painting!

Ohhh wonderful warm tone for this! The tattoo is simply exquisite. I love the loosness of the color and how the lines of the hair seem so gestural to blend from the center. I really need to try acrylics over pencil sometime. I take it you watered down the acrylics and used them like watercolors?

Hbruton In reply to AngelaSasser [2005-08-05 04:22:19 +0000 UTC]
Yes, the acrylics are extremely watered down so that the pencil will show through. I did most of the shading on the figure with ochre, leaving on the beads uncoloured. I did some very tiny touch ins with raw sienna to give a touch darker tone to the shadows, then painted in the beads. I then took a large flat brush and washed the whole pic with a very thin ochre, using more of it in the corners. Once that was completly dry, I went in with whit acrylic and picked out some details. Done.

Wow...such a simple technique! *in theory* I will definitely have to try it myself with my watercolor brushes. I've had some walmart acrylic paints sitting in my closet forever with no good thought on how to use them. I will definitely have to try this method. Thank you so much for your input!

Wow, I don't know why but I really, really like this. Maybe because it's so simple...yet not, and it has a sort of delicate or precious feeling. It's a real gem.
