Description

Felt the need to throw some paint around as I tend to be really controlled.  Really enjoyed just scribbling and dripping on this winter inspired pic.  I love winter and winter animals.  Caribou and tundra swans are perfect for that mood!  While cleaning up a stack of paper and board I came across some good watercolour paper. And thus!

29x13 pencil, watercolour and coloured pencil on watercolour paper.

Do you like using the bristol board or watercolour paper better? Which kind do you prefer? You probably don't remember but so many years ago you suggested that I try the oatmeal recycled/drawing paper. That became my favorite with charcoal as well as pastels.

It depends on what medium I'm using.  My very fav surface for just about anything is Peterborough #80 cold press illustration board, very versatile. It takes ink, pencil, coloured pencil, watercolour, acrylics and gouache equally well. \Not good for markers.   Bristol is good for markers and inking. It will take watercolour but is not the best surface for it, the paint tends to puddle and absorb in patches.  Watercolour paper takes ink and watercolour well. I like the Arches Hot Press 140 lb blocks( they have a pink cover).   There are a  number of watercolour papers sold in sheets that I also like but my brain is not supplying the name right now.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I'm so pleased you are still here on DA. You may have been the first person I started watching all those years ago. Do you prefer using mostly watercolors now? No rush but when you have a moment, would you be willing to part what your drawing weapons of choice are? I'm always experimenting with new mediums. I don't believe I have tried the Arches brand. Actually, I don't think I have tried hot press either. It's always been cold pressed for some reason. hehe

Actually I use more acrylic than watercolour Probably 40%watercolour as oppose to %60 acrylic.  I like to paint most of all.

I didn't realize that most of it was acrylic. Are you getting a lot of commission work or at least selling a lot of prints? I can see you working for a publishing company (fantasy etc) doing their book covers. And yes, I am quite partial to your work.
