The man turn to the attic door after the growing sound of familiiar footsteps. The door open and a smiling boy step through, closing the door gently behind him. "Hi Grandpa""Good afternoon Mustafa"Mustafa hug his grandpa and sit on the bed beside the elder. The boy look in shock at a white sheet on the ground, while his grandfather look to him."Grandpa... that is the mirror?" "yes""You say to never touch, never touch"Grandpa confirm using a deep sad throat sound while looking to the mirror.Mustafa question: "why does it, it look like?""Well... I never told you the story of this mirror"Mustafa ponder and say: "This doesn't look like mirror in bathroom"Grandpa laugh and say: "No it doesn't... do you want to hear the story"Mustafa shake his head in confirmation and his grandpa place an arm about him. ...Once a Honey Thief side his friend Selasanyawi NibiBela, was on the hunt. Selasanyawi guided the Honey Thief, from the sky, to a great tree along the misty banks of the Abay river. The thief prepared his smoke sticks while his friend prepared his tummy. And success, the light from the smoke sticks plus the continuous blowed smoke from the thief irritated the bees to leave, while Selasanyawi picked off bees on the run. When the thief saw the quantity of honey in the trunk of the tree, he realized his bag is too small. Calmly, the thief told his friend to stay there and he will return with a bigger skin, to bag the honey. When the Honey Thief returned, Selasanyawi stepped on prints from a rival thief. The Honey Thief plus his friend in the sky tracked the other thief to a cave. Selasanyawi stayed outside the cave; that puzzled the Honey Thief but he entered. The darkness from the cave length started to end hope for the hunt. But, the smell of beer urged the Honey Thief to continue. He saw a light and came closer. He arrived at a peaceful looking home, at the end of the cave. Illuminating flowers at the wall that made the cave end was the source of the light. A bed, hanging bowls of wares, two streams of water, a set of tables, three chairs were all arranged orderly about one resident, a woman. She was using one stream for defecation. She finished and used the other stream for cleansing. The Honey Thief stared. He expected shock or awe toward an unwelcomed or unannounced guest. He received neither reaction, while the woman went to the table for brewing beer. He didn't sit at the third chair to his side and stepped forth. He reached the brewing table and waited for a notice. The woman kept to her work. He inspected around and saw no prints from the rival thief. The woman reached for a hanging bowl and he aided her. She used the contents from the bowl to aid in her brewing. The Honey Thief felt insulted and started to leave. The woman glanced to him while he left. When he neared the cave exit he saw a shiny sparkle in a near distance. At the cave exit, his friend sat on a mirror, honey gold in color while perfect figurable reflection. A note sat under the mirror. He picked up the mirror and the note. The note read: "Thank you for aiding my friend in getting honey. Since you are impatient I offer this mirror instead of the beer. The mirror's polish is as fine as my children's ability to live together, which with patience you will see". The Honey Thief turned to the cave darkness. He saw a porcupine enter the darkness. He placed the note and mirror down and chased. But the cave end was extremely nearer in the darkness, now. The Honey Thief went back to the cave entrance. He grabbed the mirror and note and went back to his village side his friend. ...Mustafa clap. Grandpa smile and say: "that honey thief was our ancestor""It isn't good to steal grandpa"Grandpa smile and Mustafa continue, observing the mirror more: "the middle is bad, not the whole mirror"Mustafa point to the edges and continue:" is the middle old""You can say that or just... very poorly polished""I polish"Grandpa hug Mustafa: "if only there were more of you in all the days little prince, I"Abruptly, a bell from somewhere below alert everyone in the area. Running footsteps are audible toward the house. Mustafa jump off the bed and run to the door. He stop and say :"come on grandpa""I'll be there, you go wash your hands""ok": and Mustafa leave, closing the door gently behind him. Grandpa stand facing the mirror. He think to himself: "It is human nature to choose living more unnaturally"Grandpa take the cloth and cover the ancient mirror, and leave the attic. Author Richard Murray
