I've been looking for the perfect halloween picture for my facebook page. This is my favorite! I love what you did with the makeup and the lighting and everything. Do you mind if I use it?

This. IS. Amazing! The juxtaposition of whites and blacks really accentuates the elegant macabre of her face. Very well done. Very beautiful.
'Dia De los Muertos' isn't a morbid holiday, per se. It's based around the concept of celebrating the birth of the new through the death of the old.
Everything about the festival reeks with symbolism. Like, the painted skulls, they're just one example. Since the festvial was established, the skulls are always painted smiling, and the reason why is because they're laughing. Laughing at how trivial all our pissing matches in mortality are. They're laughing because they're amused and pitied by the living.
All this stuff about adressing death ritualistically goes all the the way back to the danse in europe. They're used to an elaborate ritual at Mass called, 'The danse of Death', where in succession all matter of mortal beings were coerced to join the revolving ring of dancers.
In a way, 'Dia Del Los Muertos' is the only holiday besides Christmas I can honestly respect.
Well, that and Thanksgiving, something about the combination of mindless eating and mindless sports enthusiasm just really seals the deal for me.
If you want here's some tremendous pictures of la Calaca (it's a nickname for Death) since you said you had trouble on your own.

There's a less elaborate Calaca at the end of the request, if that's what you want.

Eh, screw it. Here's some cool music to comemorate the month.

Anyway you say it is ok, there is no real difference.
Although there IS a difference in the actual day and the propper name it recieves: at least in the central part of MΓ©xico we say that in November 1st we celebrate/honour the day of all saints (although this is biased by catholicism of course) meaning that we celebrate the dead of all small children, and on the 2nd we celebrate/honour the day of the faithfull departed, meaning all grown ups.
Hope this helped and great work BTW!
