“Hey! Let me out!” A thud was heard, a hollow metallic echo following it. “Dammit! Just – ugh!”

“I’d like to help you if I could, but as you can see, we can get out of here because we have no light and we don’t know who locked us in and we can’t see each other.”

“Stop jesting! This is serious.”

“Come on, chill. I’m sure someone will rescue us sooner or later. Or we can think of a better idea.”

“I’m sure I’ll come up with a plan. After all, I’m really amazing—“

“Shut up!” A chorus of voices moaned.

“Sorry!”

“Um… I think we should calm down and keep quiet… so we can hear what’s happening outside…”

“That… actually sounds like a good idea. Heard it, Miss I’m-Going-To-Kick-This-Door-Open?”

“Fine! Shut up!”

The noise gradually faded to silence, following the last speaker’s advice. Nothing was heard.

“Okay, so that didn’t work.”

“I think we knew that.”

“Hey, does anybody know how big this thing is? Because if you see me, come over here.”

“It’s not like we can see anything—“

A green glow slowly and steadily spread from the center of the room, its light stretching its fingertips almost to the corners. First, only an outstretched left hand was seen. As the light flourished bit by bit, it revealed a boy, clad in an inky green Scout suit tipped in gold. On his back lay a long, thin sword. He grinned.

“Hi. The name’s Berilo.”

Cautiously, the other people occupying the rest of the space crept closer to the green light, which strangely, was actually warmer than the darkness had been.

The first one to reach the center was a Warrior girl in different shades of lavender. “Jolenta,” she said softly.

“Hello, Jolenta.” Berilo grinned cheekily at her as she crept closer to enjoy the warmth.

“Cerulean.” Came a boy’s voice, a confident one. “But call me Ceru.” He walked jauntily, his blue cloak flowing, unafraid of the light.

“My name is Aalok. Pleased to meet you.” A golden haired boy stepped into the circle of light and bowed. His amber-yellow Swordsman coat suited him perfectly.

“Enough with the introductions!” An impatient voiced huffed. “Sienna. You don’t have to make it long and boring, you know,” the girl continued, stepping out of the circle, revealing a Glider dressed in shades of orange. She swirled around, showing off her shimmering attire, and then joined the little band of people.

The people gathered around the light waited expectantly for the owner of the last voice. Silence. Then a little scuffle was heard.

“Fine,” the last voice sighed heavily. “Whatever. We’re all in this together anyway.” She stepped out. “Aruna. I’m a Mage.” She unwillingly strode to where the rest of them were.

“So…” Berilo’s voice cut into the silence. “We’re all from different capitals, aren’t we? I’m a Scout from Celadon.”

“A Mage of Russet,” Aruna muttered grudgingly.

“Archer of Zaffre.” Ceru gave an overexaggerated bow.

“I am a Glider of Terran,” Sienna spoke.

“Swordsman of Jonquil,” Aalok nodded slightly. They all looked at the last girl.

“Guardian of Ceryse,” Jolenta murmured softly.

“What! You can’t be a Guardian. There is no Guardian of Ceryse, or any of the other capitals, for the matter,” Ceru sniffed disbelievingly.

“But it’s true,” Jolenta protested weakly. “Or at least, I think of myself as one. You could say I’m a Warrior, though,” she added.

“Warrior! Does it take that long to answer?” Sienna shot a remark at her. Jolenta flinched.

Berilo wrapped his arm around Sienna’s shoulders, only to be shoved off. He laughed. “Relax, Glider girl. Don’t have to get so heated over it.”

“Wait a moment.” Aalok interrupted. “If we’re all from different capitals, we shouldn’t be here. There is no place in the Realm where we can exist all together at once without being discovered, unless…”

“We’re in the Citadel of Light or we’re in the Gray.”

A hush fell over the group.

“The Citadel of Light and the Gray? I’m not sure which sounds more appealing to me.”
