? WHAT IS #SMAUGUST ?
For the month of August 2016 I created one of a kind dragon drawings all month long! Its called #Smaugust , a monthly themed challenge to celebrate and engage with the online fantasy art community. Specifically, I explored and expanded the lore of Dragons within my own IP, a magical world called "Terratoff"

“The Rotten Crystal Dragon”

This is one of the drawings from my #Smaugust Collection for 2016.
#Smaugust is an art prompt for August to create and celebrate dragons!
These dragons are from my story (in development) "Terratoff".

Because Dragons are so fiercely powerful, a Rotten dragon is possibly the worst kind of threat. And worse still, this one has been somehow tamed by the Rott "Madame Odine"!
Under her control, who knows what kind of havoc they will rain down upon Terratoff?
Crystal dragons are known for being wise and kind creatures, however a Crystal dragon that has contracted “The Rott” is just the opposite! They are cunning and agile fighters, that show no mercy at all.
One can only hope that the Queen's army will be a match for such a creature.

! THE PROCESS !

My process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with colored graphite to draft the idea. Then I "sculpt" cleaner lines with the under-color that I want to show through the final drawing. Then charcoal colored graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add detail. The sketch remains intact and visible beneath the charcoal color of the final drawing.
This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the method and experience of creating it.
