Description Snowshoeing Study
2008
Oil On Panel
30"x24"

This is a smaller study of a larger piece with my friend Gayle in it....those are her father's old-fashioned snowshoes...I just had to incorporate them into a painting somehow.

Another gorgeous piece. My father used to snowshoe, even had to snowshoe halfway across the state to get home once after a bad storm blocked all the roads. This makes me smile, because it reminds me of him.

I don't really like the sky, though, to me it's so thick and stylized it doesn't fit in with the rest of the painting. My favorite part is probably the pale blue of the snowshoe tracks

You really made us (the viewer) see from the distant setting towards the foreground, lovely scenery

I love the texture on the sky. It reminds me that its a painting.

I like how I can see the strokes of the paint across the canvas along the cloud borders in the sky. Thumbs up.

Beautiful as always. Was the panel white and so you used some of that or is it all white paint?

the sky just seems so fascinating. I know it's just a small part of the drawing but i always find it so incredible how you manage to say so much with so little and, seemingly, so effortlessly.

The sky is painted pretty thickly...too thickly IMO. I have learned to not go too crazy with the media through that little experiment

'drawing' is meant to be painting

You seem to have new paintings all the time; do you work on several projects at once?

I work on two to three...sometimes just one but I try to have a couple on the go.
