Description "Snowy Perch"
Watercolor on coldpress, 6 X 9ish

This is my last winter-themed painting for a while, I promised. I was not very happy with this painting while I was working on it, but I think it came together nicely in the end. Gave me a good chance to work on a snowy, out-of-focus background, and rough bark. I used a photo from "Birds N Blooms" magazine as a reference photo.

Lovely work! The face looks very alert I like the bits of snow, but if I may criticize, the snowflakes look different in the background and on the tree trunk - did you use two different methods?

I was trying to show the perspective & depth...the snowflakes in front of the wood would be closer to the viewer than the ones in the background. There are a few that I used the same bold effect on the larger snowflakes.

I love the cold, dark winter color scheme. It's spot-on.
This whole piece gets me so excited for the cold setting in.

I like the snowy effect you came up with. I think the woodpecker is pretty good. I don't think birds are easy to paint. I can draw them better than I can paint them.
