It's hard to get that part of them in focus, but I think you can see it on several of the butterflies from this set.

70-300mm tele-macro by Quantaray. The one I had before this was a canon and I hated it--never in focus and could never get any detail, even in things that were far away. In general I find canon to be a good company, but their lower end lenses are driving me nuts.

My next step is to replace the 18mm--55mm that came with the camera, as I find similar problems with it.

Hw much did you give for that lens? I have the canon350D with the 18-55mm lens, and I want a new macro lens.... What do you think of the sigma lenses? I found a cheap one i like...

Honestly it was a gift, but I think it was in the $300+ range. If the store will let you, try out the lens first. Bring your camera in and try taking some photos with the lens you are looking at buying.

If they won't let you do that, see if they have a similar model of camera to try it on, and use your own card so you can take the photos home and look at them.

My Dad had the same lens I'm using now for his Rebel, and I started barrowing it to photograph the birds in our backyard. That's how I found out that it was the old lens that was causing me problems and not my photography technique.

I don't know how you managed to get this close. Butterflies are really hard to get close to...unless they're feeding of course. Nice job!

It was one of those butterfly rooms so it wasn't too difficult. However the macro lens I got for Christmas has made a huge improvment on these types of shots for me. No matter what I did with the other one it was never in focus!

So you were in a Green House kind've? I've been to the Bug House (I forget what it's called---it's been ages) at the San Diego zoo in which they had dozens of butterflies and leaf cutter ants.

Very similar I would think.
