I like it. You've definitely captured that cockiness in Kirk's eyes.

He was the real deal. In 'the Next Generation' they needed two people to do his job - one to be Captain and somebody else to make out with the hot alien babes...

You can't beat the original in my opinion!
And thank you for the llama, by the way!

Yes that is the way I feel too. But I have to admit that he is the one I grow up watching so to me he will always be the best.
And NP just out on dA spreading the llama love.LOL

I loved that show also.
I really wish I could solve real life problems like Kirk. You know, fighting monsters with a torn shirt and making hot alien women with beehive hair fall in love with me and all that stuff...

I joined a group but it seems to be mostly Kirk and Spock kissing...

hahahaha, I haven't come across those yet. Personally I prefer Ds9 and TNG, but i see more art for TOS. I know of a textile artist who makes TOS quilts in Pittsburgh. They are quite interesting.

I prefer the old stuff but I'm definitely going to do a painting of Commander Sisko soon. I'd like to do a Riker as well but I don't have your skill with facial hair.
Star Trek quilts sound pretty awesome!

OOO I can't wait to see your Sisko. Deep Space 9 was my favorite Star Trek. We are talking Sisko pre facial hair I take it. Because you mentioned your apprehension about drawing facial hair.
Oh they were fabulous. Her "Trouble with Tribbles" quilt... fantastic.

I made a start on Sisko. I am doing the beardy version because after some consideration I decided it was too awesome not too.
I am concerned at this stage that it is looking a bit like Uncle Phil from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air...

hahahaha, Uncle Phil was awesome! I wouldn't have minded him as an uncle (or father for that matter... unless of course I ended up like carlton). So is it that he is just looking too fat or?

I sketched the face in and then I started working on the eyes and the beard which had the darkest areas and made sense to me - and there he was, uncle Phil himself. I'm hoping that as I work on the chin, the brow, the jawline and get some definition there it'll start looking less chubby and a bit more commandery.
But I don't really know. Sometimes you have to go where the ink takes you and a picture of uncle Phil would be great. True fact - the Captain Kirk picture I did started out as Hannah Montana...

hahahahaha, thats quite a difference, hannah montana and captain kirk. Sisko did on a couple season put on a few pounds and was a little thicker around the neck/jaw area.
I actually started a drawing of Uhura tonight. Seems to be going well so far. The face shading will be the most difficult. Also her nose is fairly flat and small at the bottom but she has a very wide/strong nose line... noses frustrate me sometimes.

OK, so maybe I was lying about Hannah Montana...
I always Sisko thought looked better with a bit of extra weight. It kinda made him look more dignified. Like me as I get older.
Uhura is another great character. Myself I always find it quite fascinating when you start to draw somebody and start to notice features that you have always taken for granted.
I'm also a little frustrated with my nose (that I am drawing) at the moment. I think it looks a bit scrappy to be honest;

I have thought that before though and then it has looked a lot better with some colour and highlights so hopefully that will be the case.

To be honest on the internet I'm not sure you can tell much difference between the two pictures. I did it on A£ so it wouldn't fit in my scanner and the pen work didn't show up very clearly on the picture I took on my phone. Anyway I've since decided that I'm happy with it so that is alright.
And yeah, keep working on it. I can see you trying and practising a lot of the same things I did which is why I found your gallery interesting!
