Description Another commission, this time of the Faith No More singer.  Acrylics on canvas, 30cm x 40cm.

I'm on facebook now and also have a facebook page for my art there.  It is probably the best place to get hold of me these days if anybody wants me for anything.  Let me know if you want to be friends or like me and have me like you back whatever.

Thank you!  I have really struggled with hair myself, it is only after a lot of trial and error I'm starting to find techniques that seem to get nice effects!

If it helps then hair is generally higher contrast than skin or most other things - as in it goes from deep shadows to bright highlights very quickly.  The trick is try and find a way to represent that within your own style.

I'll use far fewer shades/tones when doing hair than other features and instead of blending I'll use brushes that make hard edges.  So diamond or square brushes instead of round for digital and wide flat brushes for tradtional - that I can use sideways to make straight lines and flat to make rectangular shapes.

Stunning portrait. Love the detail. Was listening to his score for Crank 2 earlier.

This wasn't done for me but I'm a big Mike Patton fan myself - he is one of the best performers I have seen live!  He has had so many side projects I lose track, the Crank 2 soundtrack is a new one on me but I'll have to look it up!

And thanks for the kind words!  Not sure how much detail there actually is - I think there is just so much texture from the way I smear paint around it gives an illusion a detail!

Well I love this "illusion of detail" it still works great. I think you might like the Crank 2 soundtrack. Really good.

Nice. He's probably my fave singer of all time.

Thanks!  And yeah, I think he is an all-time great singer!  Maybe only Freddie Mercury had the same kind of vocal range?

Yeah. But Freddy Mercury never did death metal.

I can't even picture him doing death metal. Of course, then again Freddy always had a flair for operatic and intense stuff.

I saw Mike Patton when he was touring as/with Peeping Tom.  I think when he is doing other stuff it can be hard to imagine him doing metal.  Or maybe that is just me!

Woah, you saw Peeping Tom in concert?! I love their album, but I can't even find a live show on Youtube. You're so lucky! I even prefer Peeping Tom to Mr. Bungle.

I saw them at the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton which is a fairly small venue.  When I went I had no idea what to expect, I just heard Mike Patton was involved and went along.  There were a lot of different musicians and a lot of different styles and with a small audience it all seemed very odd and informal.  But it really gave Patton a chance to shine as the performer and showman that he is!  Hard to know how to rate it against other gigs I have been to but I'm certainly glad I went!

The only real concert I've ever been to is Ottawa Bluesfest. They did some good acts though, stuff as diverse as country on one stage and Wu Tang on another.

I'm probably lucky that I live in the UK, relatively speaking nothing is really that far away if I want to go.  Especially when I was younger I used to go to a lot of concerts.  A good music festival is fun because you get to see a lot of stuff you wouldn't normally see!

That's a good point. In fact, one of the reasons I love Mike Patton so much is because his body of work covers so many genres and styles.

I was about 12/13 and a militant metal purist when I started listening to Faith No More.  It was probably through Mike Patton and his side projects that I started to concede that there might be more to life than Megadeth.  I love that he has tried so many different styles and I'm amazed he has been able to transfer his huge talent to all of them - everything from crooning to beatboxing!

I used to be a metal die-hard too, and I started branching off my tastes for the same reason. Now I listen to basically anything, even country.

I have started going to folk music festivals.  Enthusiastic people in a field partying and enjoying themselves making live music - I can get behind that even if maybe it isn't all brilliant!

Do you listen to Johnny Cash? I consider him the pinnacle of modern folk/country.

Johnny Cash is great - I recently wasted a whole evening drinking whiskey and watching Johnny Cash videos on youtube!
