Description Yo!
Here's another Step By Step for those of you who requested it.I'll be using Capcom's Strider Hiryu Vs the Emperor Dragon this time.
I'll do this one step at a time,so stay tuned for more soon-ish.
Enjoy!

Step 1:the rough sketch...of course.
Step 2 A:Clean lines on Strider.

Step 2 B: Clean lines on the dragon.
Step 3 A: Added basic colors on Strider.
Step 3 B: Basic colors on the Dragon.
Step 4 A:Added a layer for shadows on Strider and the dragon.Keep in mind that before you add shadows, make sure you have a light source. In this case it ll be the Dragon's mouth,so around the middle between those two.

Step 4 B: Another layer for shadows was added, giving it more depth.

New! Step 5 : I add some lighting around both of them and a dark background. The final step is adding some extra effects, like fire and glows etc.  Which will be uploaded on its own.

I hope this little tutorial on how i work was a bit helpful to some of you : )

Here's how the final piece looks!

Interesting.

do you decide before doing the lineart how thick a line have to be,

or you just instinctively do it?

(I know it sound dumb, but I want to improve my own linework and I have to know what kind of thought I should have during the lineart process)

I usually stick to thin lines all the way through.Personal preference,so you ll see which style of lines suits you best.

I see, but when I take a look at your artwork, outlines don't behave like the lines you use for details (outlines are continuous, and the other are smaller, and break at times) I don't really know how to explian it, but you do something with your linework that take my interest and...well if I could figure out the logic behind it, it'd help me...I hope you get what I'm trying to say, I'm having trouble to find the right words

Shading frontal characters with different color seems simple but very useful trick! Gotta try that next time when working! Thanks for this step-by-step!

murtaza-shah [2013-10-23 11:53:57 +0000 UTC]

do u use perspective from camera lens view.cause i try to learn perspective on my own as much as i can and my eyes really don't help me much to catch the perspective of things but when ever i see perspective in drawings and illustration of artist like you.i always get the feeling as if this is a picture taken from a camera lens.so the best way to learn perspective is through camera lens or is there any other good way?

HeavyMetalHanzo In reply to murtaza-shah [2013-10-23 11:58:31 +0000 UTC]

i actually never used that method. But if you have a hard time, try using vanishing points and grids, that should help you out.
For simple angles like this one,i usually improvise all the way.

looking at your work without even step by step actually helps too and give an idea what things should be focus on in perspective view. Thanks for the reply appreciated cheers

I'm always fascinated by how loose some of my favourite artist's roughs are. I really need to make a conscious effort not to overwork it! I always end up with my rough becoming my 'final pencils' stage. Great insight dude

I'm sure, the problem is changing the habits you've already been using daily for years! I look forward to seeing your progress on this piece man

HeavyMetalHanzo In reply to EzJedi [2013-10-23 12:40:14 +0000 UTC]

Yup,takes a while to let go of that habit, but it ll be for the best.
Thanks : )

EzJedi In reply to HeavyMetalHanzo [2013-10-23 12:42:18 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. I think you have so much more flexibility in changing the direction of a piece early on when you sketch loosely. For me, by the time I've decided I'm not happy I've already invested 45 minutes!

No problem dude, keep up the good work
