Another pair of recent redesigns of old characters using templates based off of "Batman-The Animated Series," in this case of two of my older "anti-hero/part-time villain" characters.
On the left is The Vixen, a character I created in high school that has gone through so many changes in costume and origin that even I don't know who or what's supposed to be under that mask. Basically, I wanted a cat-burgler anti-hero character, but since, at the time, I had an all cat-themed superteam, I didn't want her to be, well, a cat. I was obsessed with foxes at the time and, since foxes are traditionally known for being slinky, cunning, and larcenous, I made that her motif. She most recently appeared, sans costume but as a anthropomorphic fox, as the villain in my short-lived RP, "Cruel Summer," over at "Superfurs." Ultimately, she's my Iron City Universe's answer to Catwoman, which works both for and against her...fox-themed costume or not, how could you look at her and NOT think "Selina Kyle?"
On the right is the latest version of Noctina. I created her in college (or, more accurately, during the year I spent in ROP because I got put on academic probation) as a parody of Vampirella before I realized that Vampirella was, herself, a parody. She quickly became my most popular character at school due to the vampire craze, but I was SO sick of vampires by that time that I made her a demon instead...well, half-demon, anyway, what the D&D books called an "alufiend," a half-succubus. The character, whose "secret identity" was Tina Mordare (Dutch for "murder"), quickly became one of the pre-emminent supernatural background characters in the ICU, a demonic loan shark and information broker who ran a nightclub for "dark" types, human and otherwise.
Of course, this isn't THAT Noctina...THIS girl is her latest incarnation, Sarah Goodwyn, a Catholic schoolgirl who dreamed of being a nun until she discovered she was the latest inheritter of Noctina's half-soul, as well as her powers, legacy, and half-demon heritage. Being part mortal, Noctina always eventually succumbs to old-age; Tina Mordare herself is the fifth Noctina, and Sarah had been chosen at birth to be her successor. This was done in response to the whole "Ultimate" universe thing Marvel is doing; I wanted a way to do a Noctina comic from square one without having to completely jettison all I'd come up with before, and I was inspired by pics by an incredible artist named Blue Kitten (particularly these pics [link] [link] [link] ) to create a completely NEW Noctina. So far, so good...
