Some time ago Applejack and Applebloom were on a wild adventure in search of the Great Seedling, a deer-like creature that has all the colors of the Harvest. During this particular Search, AJ and AB did find a deer-like creature, but instead they found another Legend - the Kirin. Since the Kirin saw that he was spotted, he bowed his head to the Apples offering othem to take one of his dangling crystals. It may not be what they were looking for, but at least they got something to show for it.
