Description It was fading now.

The phantom ache where her left arm had been was slowly ebbing away, the cuts and scratches that criss-crossed her body reduced to a mere tingle. Even the wound gained from a knife to her stomach was nothing more than a shadow of what it had felt like when it had been fresh.

The pain was much more bearable now...and then a moment later it was gone. And it took all feeling away with it.

Numbness. Relief.

The world around her grew steadily brighter until it burned her eyes, but still she forced them to stay open, afraid to miss something. It was an unfounded fear, of course she knew that, because how could she miss something that she didn't even know existed in the first place?

Uncertainty.

At the edge of her vision, where this strange, bright world looked a little bit darker, a figure emerged from the shadows, stepping gracefully out of nothing.

Her heart caught in her throat.

"Neji..."

This...stranger, he looked so much like a certain someone that the pain returned tenfold, but this time to her heart.

She stepped forward, eyes searching the one she knew like the back of her hand. His pale eyes held her gaze steadily, just the way Neji had when he was still...

Alive.

But he wasn't, so there was no...

Wait. But -

Did that mean...?

Was she...?

The emotion in his normally unreadable eyes was everything she needed to know, before she launched herself at him with a strangled sob.

He patted her awkwardly as she clutched his robes like a lifeline, revelling in his smell that she had tried so hard to forget.

He had left her so suddenly, and she'd given everything, paid in her blood, sweat and tears, to breathe life back into him. In the end though, it seemed inevitable that she would be joining him on the other side.

So here she was.

Home.

At last.

For NejiTen month...
I tried. I really did. I actually started it AGES ago, and then left it with the promise of coming back to finish it off later. Well, we all know what happened next.
ARGH! Why does my "later" always have to be so late?
