Description Here are my newly acquired hamsters: at the top, Cherry (a Chinese hamster) and then two naughty Roborovski hamsters called Roger and Rafa. They are much fatter nowadays. XD

Furries are so difficult to draw/colour...

Coloured pencils only
Worked from observation and photos.

Cool name for your hamster! Maybe you could submit some photos of him, and add them to the awesome hamster group #HAMSTER-lovers .

I wish to someday look after newborn hamsters. Adorable!

I miss my dwarf hamsters (even though it's been like 3 years)

The one at the top looks like Mary. She was such a b**** and always bit me for no reason but I loved her.

Oh, you had a Chinese hamster? Aww, I miss mine so much, she was a sweet heart.

Not many people realize that all hamsters have different personalities from eachother - you can't find the same one to replace your old one.

I'm not sure. They just classified her as a dwarf hamster at the pet shop. (But the woman that ran it doesn't act like she knows what she's doing. At her old building, she sold me cedar chips for bedding and it caused my mouse to die. She also said the baby hamsters wouldn't crawl through the bars and one of them did and died. She also said the water bottle wouldn't leak and it did. I hate that woman. )

I know, I'll never find a hamster like Papa hamster. He used to have a name, but after he had kids with the female, we nicknamed him Papa and called him that for a few years. Same goes for Mama (well, we got rid of her cause she was really vicious) and Baby (the baby we decided to keep). I thought they were both males but the idiots at the pet store (this is a different pet store) didn't separate them by sex, apparently. After that family died off, we bought Mary (real generic name, I know, but it was around Christmas time when I got her).

Papa is still my favorite, though. His fur was so soft and he felt so old, thin, and frail. Sometimes I would let him lick peanut butter off my fingers and he never bit. I'd open the cage door and he'd crawl right into my hands and stay there.

Even though I had bad luck with pet stores, Papa died of old age.

OMG!! What a crazy woman. People can get away with negligent advice if it's just a small vulnerable animal. Well, for me, the petshop assistant said my 2 hamsters were both FEMALE, but we found out after a month that the hamsters were male... and hyper.

Aww, cute. You were able to breed hamsters.
That is so wonderful. Docile obedient hamsters can really create inner peace for us.

We are planning to get a normal sized hamster, gerbil or rat next, because we can't cuddle these miniature ones.

Coco-zutarafan In reply to hedspace77 [2010-08-21 22:40:02 +0000 UTC]

Wow.

Yeah, I was so surprised. I think Mama hamster was practically raping papa hamster. And that's when we realized "The babies are coming " Well, she was mean anyway. I remember when she bit my older sister. She was like "You b***!" cause it drew blood O_O Mama hamster also had a tendency to frantically climb the bars and chew on them and chew the paint off, which was bad for her. The salt wheel didn't make her stop, either. We eventually took her back to the pet store after taking the babies back, because she was so mean.

Yeah, my mom said something about getting a guinea pig.

I'm guessing you once had a larger sized hamster, as they are more suitable for young children, unlike these dwarf ones.

Thank you as always, it's an extra bonus to read a comment from you. Please avoid my silly stuff.

I gave this drawing to my mother, and she asked me "was this actually drawn?" I replied, "Y-yes?" with an expression like The pencil marks are clear.

Hehehe, thank you again, Chihei!

Oh, your hamsters are adorable Years ago I had a couple but they were a bit... temperamental. After having hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs in house I think that the more docile rodents are rats, although they're not as cute as a hamster.

On the other hand, the drawing is great, very realistic for being animals. At least I find them too hard to draw...

hedspace77 In reply to nikaikepa [2009-11-27 22:23:47 +0000 UTC]

Rats are more docile than hamsters, really? Yes we usually see hamsters fighting, running away.. biting.
Yes, you have many animals. I want a pet duck too.

Thank you for the comment!

Well, that's what I found out after having this kind of pets..... Male rats are better than females but I prefer females....

hehehehe...... ducks are simply lovely, geese too but they can be a bit dangerous when they are in group or when they don't know you.... my goose -Veinablat- doesn't like my mum ...... and my white duck -Kotenka- doesn't like anyone, excepting me.... hehehehehe.....

Awwww, such cuties
So the one in the back is the chinese one? They look very alike, but I guess that one has a little different colour/fur structure and shape

They are all very cute, though XD
And you did amazing with the fur and those cute button eyes

hedspace77 In reply to ShirubaaNeko [2009-11-23 17:33:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I loves my children very much
The Chinese hamster has almost like a black brush-stroke in its back, ironically matches so well with calligraphy.
Thank you very much as always, but I sort of agonized when drawing/colouring the fur.

If you watch this: [link] the wild Roboroski's are probably twice bigger. But then our small ones just emphasises on "dwarf hamsters".
