Do you know that feeling which you get when you see something so clearly in your head, but when you try to put it on paper you just fail.... Ugh. That happened to me with this background, I tried to get nice rusty-ish feel to it but it didn't quite work out as I planned. So I desided to go with checkered BG instead and I'm actually quite happy that I did it! I still left some of the original BG to show through and parts of the metallic ink still shows, which gives it nice shimmering effect. (: Which sadly doesn't show on the scan, but I try to upload some detail shots to my tumblr asap!

Tools: Colored pencils, fine liners, watercolors, gouache, white acryl, metallic ink
