Description Maria had swum deep into the water in search of the key to rescue her prince in the nearby castle. She had learned that it was hidden somewhere around here, deep in the water, and it was after a couple minutes of searching that she felt her chest burn and she desired air. Maria turned, swimming towards where she’d come from, only to find that a trap must have been set off, as the door out of the flooded room was shut.

She did her best not to panic and she began swimming around, trying to find some way to let herself out. She looked under rocks, in small chests, behind crevices and random furniture had gotten flooded in with her. The good news was she found the key she had been looking for—the bad news was that she still couldn’t find a way out.

Her chest burned with air, and she covered her mouth to keep her air from escaping. Her cheeks puffed and strained to hold the air inside of her, even as her oxygen was getting devoured. She continued swimming for another few seconds, trying desperately to find something that would let her out, but there was nothing useful.

Some air slipped through her lips and she clapped her hands over her mouth, curling inward and trembling. Her body wanted nothing more than to release the dirty air from her lungs and take in a fresh breath, but Maria knew that she would receive nothing but water. Her puffed cheeks strained against her clamped hands and her face turned red. She writhed in the water, her hair billowing around her.

The pain in her chest only increased. Her chest bobbed, trying to make he breathe. She fought her natural instincts and her body sank to the floor without her treading water anymore. Her face flushed blue now as she battled her own body. Her cheeks were as puffed up as they could be from air being pushed out of her lungs but not escaping into the water.

Someone let me out of this room! Maria thought desperately as she looked around. Her head spun and she felt like she was going to pass out if she didn’t get any relief soon. As a last-ditch effort, she forced herself to swim towards the door again and she pounded her hand against it as best she could, trying to get the slab of stone to lift once more, but it was no use. If there was someone on the other side who could possibly help her, they either couldn’t hear her, or they just didn’t care about her plight. Her hand fell away from her mouth as the air finally escaped her lips.
