While not reading the comments on here and coincidentally expressing my own opinion I believe that photography isn't only about capturing the most beautiful works of art but also about capturing the simple moments in life. That's what cameras were created for - those moments when you pause a little longer than you need to, wishing that you could just stop time and save this picture forever.
Also? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Someone may scratch up a song and call it art, and someone may slap together a few books without ever peeking at a thesaurus and call it literature. But when it touched the hearts of other who look at it, when it expresses shared emotion (and this does) it's art.
Sorry for the long rant. >.<

Who do you think you are? You're ugly self portraits infest your DA so heisaspy's photo (which is beautiful) has every right to be here. There are snapshots and other emotive portraits which are worse and still have every right to exist on deviantart. As a 19-year-old need to GROW UP and know when you don't have the right to be pretentious and when to speak.
I'm sure that Liam, a Pratt student who has done amazing things like work for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, understands what art is; and if he wants to post a picture of him and his boyfriend, so be it. Keep your mouth shut and move along.

Whoa, Dylan. No need to be harsh. I put this picture up so that Vic could be on here. Snapshot or not, you and dark-persian are right and the stupid high schooler needs to shut up.
I would put up more recent work since all of my artwork on here is mediocre in comparison to my newer stuff, but I can't as I'm under contract I cannot and I do not want to put up "homework" from Pratt.
Surely, peacelovebuttholes666 thinks that macros and photoshop is art, but who am I to say anything, right?

well to be caught in the moment and take a picture is a lot more artistic then just taking a pic of yourself and saying me i;m a peace of art (unless it's ur id then maybe)

Emotive Portraits are simple portraits such as this one. There is even a section for everyday snapshots here! This site is also for all levels of skill in art and photography. So, seeing some of the other things permitted on this site, I'd say this definitely belongs.
