Okay, interesting discussion. Coming in way late, but I'd like to add my two cents. 14 billion dollars were spent on making the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony spectacular. 14 billion dollars were spent on success. I watched the opening ceremony and I was blown away. I've never seen anything so beautiful and fantastic. However, in my opinion, the length of the ceremony could have been shortened. Perhaps a show like that of one hour instead of two (or however long it was) would have sufficed. Perhaps a significant amount of money could have been redirected in that case. At any rate, I don't forsee an opening ceremony that will top the one in Beijing for many years to come-if ever. And that, I believe, was the idea.
