Description I don't know if it's such a great idea to post this as the person hasn't seen it yet--it will be given to one of my sister's coworkers as a Christmas gift. But since I finished it a few days ago, I wanted to share it. By the way, this is my first time painting from a photo (the dog was from a photo) and the background was inspired by different scenes from Thomas Kinkade. I'm not sure what the size of it is (I know that the height is 27 inches). So excited that it took me only 6 days to paint this.

Great colors and details. Gotta love those eyes.

The hardest part of the painting was the sky because I started off too dark and I wanted a really nice gradient, so it took me about three hours just for the sky. The dog's eyes were the second hardest part of the painting. It was what livened everything when I finished the eyes. Interesting how the eyes can add so much life to the whole painting. Thank you, by the way.

Thank you so much, Rhonda. I enjoyed painting this so much. The brainstorming took a little while longer than I intended it to be.

Thank you so much, Patty. Your encouragement is always appreciated. I was very happy when I finished it. It's too bad my dad can't see much of it because of his diabetic blindness.

A lot of my family members love Thomas Kinkade, so it is awesome to see something inspired by his work...great job. Everything goes together very nicely. I think your sister's friend will love it.

I love Kinkade's work because it always seems to glow and just gives off this magical feel to it and your family members probably love his work for that, too. It took a while to get the idea down. I was even afraid to start of the dog because I wasn't sure how he'd come out. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!

You are most welcome! I love his work too and I can see exactly what you are talking about...my mother also loves the books...I believe he co-wrote them? Ever checked into those?

No, I never saw or read his books. Are they like fiction books or just a collection of his works and descriptions?

ChriscoDesigns In reply to HelenLight [2013-12-18 00:41:46 +0000 UTC]

I believe it is fiction but I am not entirely sure. I will have to check into that.

The sky took me forever to do because it came out too dark and then I had to smooth it out a lot. It's mostly hidden, but it was one of the hardest things to do here. I'd like to see your practices with acrylics. They're so much fun. The dog's name is cute. It's not for my sister, but for her coworker and I hope she'll like it. Thank you, Dani.

Chris, some people have different talents than drawing. You can work with wood, THAT is just amazing. Plus, you create stunning orb spheres and do nice compositions with them. Maybe if you gave painting a try?

I can draw stick figures I do draw some small things, just wish I could do real technical drawings of futuristic cities and creatures. I have a friend who does crosshatch drawing that is so emotive and wonderful to view, it is my favorite ... next to watercolor painting.

This is great.  You should do a tutorial on how you do these.

Thank you so much! Well, painting on paper is very similar to digital painting as I have been doing for my books. There are lots of tutorials out there that show how to get started. Me, as impatient as I am when it comes to drawing, I prefer to experiment by myself.

Ooops.  My mistake.  I thought this was digital but then I saw that's an acrylic so a tutorial wouldn't make sense.

It's a great image.  I'm sure your sister's friend will love it.
