This is a beautifully detailed, playful and yet somewhat unsettling piece! The background is very colorful overall, giving a playful whimsy to the field the girl is standing it, showing off her innocence in the setting and situation. Meanwhile, the foreground, in sharp contrast, is dark with deep browns and reds; some of the leaves look ashen. Not only that, but you can see red eyes along the path, hinting t dangerous creatures stalking their prey. It’s as if the dark browns and reds of the foreground are closing in on the bright atmosphere of the child, signaling just how close to dangerous she really is if she keep standing in the field instead of moving further into the bright distance.
The artist is telling a fantastic story just by this picture alone; it is somewhat dark, but so bright and whimsical. Already the atmosphere is making me feel for the child, hoping that she keeps on her journey into the bright and colorful light. Fantastic, stunning work, very emotional, and I can’t wait to see more from this artist!
