I made this a long time ago but never bothered to post it. Now that Obama -is- the new Empero- I mean President of the United Imperium of Ma- You know what, I'll just stop here.The joke was mostly inspired by how people compared Obama to Jesus, and how the Emperor is considered to have "been Jesus", by some fans. I thought it funny at least D:
Oh and before I forget entirely to be a bit political, Go Go Obama! Black Preshudent Powah!

Love him or hate him...this is hilarious. Yeah, and you can be for Obama, or just indifferent to Obama and still be annoyed by his fans. And America is an Empire, it just doesn't want to admit it. Obama is mostly considered a religious figure -- specifically the Antichrist -- by people who want to assassinate him. One of whom recently attempted to. (The Christ ideation is something more common to Republican presidents and their followers, specifically his predecessor.) So the humour value is a bit limited.

Yeah, with some more than some, you know? There's a long tradition of calling the Pope the Antichrist in anti-Catholic bigotry, but there isn't a long tradition of people being heavily dedicated to this proposition in American politics. I guarantee you a quarter of Democrats did not believe Reagan was the Antichrist -- if in fact any did -- but a quarter of Republicans WILL poll (and have done) in support of such a belief about Obama. They aren't comparable.

It was at any rate apparently far from enough to prevent his subsequent canonization as the de facto patron saint of Republicanism. (As I've already said, ultra-conservatives indulging in dubious anti-Papism isn't news. Significant proportions of American political movements indulging the same thing about an opposing candidate are a different animal by far.)
