Description Will update with the finished version later! I wanted to have this finished for Monday, but it just didn't work out. :C

Anyway, it's Micah again, waking up in the desert after being attacked the previous night by a werewolf. His shirt and jacket are from Urban Outfitters, the go-to store for douchey hipsterwear.

I will add more dirt and blood when I color it, because that is what I do. I can upload the big lineart if anyone else wants to give a shot at colorings!

Okay, I just gotta ask... how on earth do you get your line art so clean? Do you use the pen tool? Your stuff always blows me mind, be it colored or not.

hellcorpceo In reply to AutumnalDaydreams [2010-04-26 18:37:50 +0000 UTC]

This one was just using a hard round brush in Photoshop. In the brush palette, I went into shape dynamics and turned on the size = pen pressure option. Under "other dynamics," I turned off the opacity and turned on the flow.

I always work really big, too, so that when I shrink it down, all of my little errors are covered up. XD

I know that working big is how to get really clean lines, but I can't seem to do it properly... I only have Photoshop Elements 4.0, and when I zoom out enough to draw a line, the line goes all zig-zaggy. And if I zoom in enough to get a smooth line, I can only draw in little-bitty sections. Is that normal, or am I facing technology limitations? Maybe my screen is too small? I think it's 17 inches. What size screen do you use? ...You use a tablet, right?

hellcorpceo In reply to Whes [2010-04-29 05:16:35 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes you can draw zoomed out with quick strokes to avoid the wiggles, but to make it really smooth, you have to zoom way in, draw a little bit at a time, and erase a lot. It can be kind of tedious, which is why I tend to get lazy on it.

Ahh, thanks for the tips! I'm used to sizing up massively to try and hide the mistakes too but man, your line art just seems to be virtually perfect hahahaha. I'd imagine it takes a lot of patience too which is why I suck at clean up haha

hellcorpceo In reply to AutumnalDaydreams [2010-04-26 21:28:21 +0000 UTC]

This one actually went pretty quickly--I tend to get really anal about my lineart, so I forced myself to work fast and not stress over every little detail. Otherwise, I just end up drawing the same line over and over again. X3;

Whes In reply to hellcorpceo [2010-04-29 01:53:13 +0000 UTC]

I'm constantly drawing the same line over and over again! DX (All in an effort to be clean and beautiful and perfect like this, because I want to be you when I grow up! )

I've taken to using the pencil tool in Photoshop because it makes it easier to color (fill-bucket!), but I like the way the brush tool looks more. ; ;

So, how do you color using the brush tool?

Also, how do you shade, in general? (Shading is the bane of my existence. I feel like such an idiot! D,X)

hellcorpceo In reply to Whes [2010-04-29 05:18:25 +0000 UTC]

For painterly colors, set the brush tool's opacity to pen pressure. To blend smoothly, turn off shape dynamics; to get sharp lines, turn the shape dynamics back on. That's basically it. You can download different brush packs to get different effects, but most of your painting will probably be done with a regular old hard round brush.

Cel shading, just use the hard round brush with opacity dynamics off. You can either choose your shading colors individually, or use one or two colors on a multiply layer.

I'm definitely going to have to work hard to get to a stage where I get clean line art that looks like that xD It's usually really obvious when I try to do something quickly. Usually the quality drops real bad hahahah I only recently learned how to properly clean up from my animation teacher this year and boy did that make a difference!

Man, that werewolf used to be cool, but he's totally sold out. Now Micah is into skinwalkers. They're like the loup-garou used to be, before they went all commercial.

Oh, I love it when ~hellcorpceo is active. XD

Incidentally, when I first saw the thumbnail, I thought the rocks were bubbles and Mr. Injured was sinking into the sea. That would be cool, but it's not really applicable. XD Next time, I guess.

He looks just like himself... 8o

your description just gave me a mental image of a werewolf being driven into a rage and specifically attacking him because he's wearing urban outfitters hipster stuff. that werewolf was probably chilling out and totally fine then saw him and got all 'URBANN OUUUTFIIITTERRRRSS!' (except it was just a howl because werewolves generally can't talk) and all hell broke loose. good times, good times.

i think that's what ALL of us would do. Except for the hipster werewolves. But, i assume that werewolf society is sort of a strongest live situation, and the hipster werewolves would be weeded out just after the emo werewolves.
