When I was little I thought tiny people lived in the drain to clean the water, AND people who worked at the store lived in their own rooms at the back of the store.

lol, cute. But it only happens in babies. :/
(and I mean like when someone with like black skin marries someone with white skin, they have a tan (caramel) colored baby)

Not always!! :U
I babysit this one kid whose family is mixed.
Mom - mega-pale. blonde.
Dad - black. dark hair.
Son (kid I babysit) - dark like his dad.
Daughter (also babysit) - pale. not as pale as her mom, but still very, very white. light brown hair.
Daughter - in between, like you said.
The mom is pregnant again - so the skin color will be a toss-up ahaha

That's genetics for you. It just shows you that the father has some mixed genes in his blood. (I take it that he isn't straight from Africa, therefore somewhere in his background he must have some European ancestry mixed in there somewhere.) So the daughter was probably given two light skinned genes. (I'm guessing on this since I'm not a genetics expert).
Same goes for the mother. Since the son is really dark, she must have a black ancestor in her DNA that is hidden, and that only appeared in her child.
As for the last child you mentioned, well skin color is said to be incomplete dominance. So the girl must've been given both light skin genes and dark skin genes which was the outcome of a caramel skin.
