Realistically (a word foreign to this series btw, nomatter how entertaining it may be) the shockwave of displaced air from extending Kamishini no Yari would obliterate large sectios of anything in front of Gin.

And also shatter the ear drums of any person or thing in the area not excluding Gin but as with other incomprehensible shinigami powers we have to assume the user has a handle on that potential mass destruction.

Well, the same pressure wave that would deafen you would turn you into paste at rouphly the same time... which when you think about it would make his Bankai a lot more formidable than it already was.

I concur turning people to paste would be a pretty formidable combat ability but Gin himself stated he was lying about the speed however to be able to convince people it was even close to 500 times the speed of sound it would have to be at least close so still hypersonic to say the least since shockwaves from the movement were witnessed during his little fight with Ichigo.

Indeed. And It is still the fastest Zanpakuto seen in the series, and would essentially be an undodgable weapon in a stabbing motion (i.e. Ichigo would have been dead several times over in that fight, unless yo factor in that Gin was actually sort of a good guy... though that didn't stop him from cutting Hyori in half). And then the whole random virulant acid dust thing makes his zanpakuto pretty crazilly deadly if it had been applied in a logical manner. Given that we never saw Aizen's Bankai, just his annoying plot-protection transformations. Gin actually had a pretty good chance of killing him, at least on paper.

And with the knowledge of how to stop Aizen's hypnotism by touching the blade it's no surprise Gin thought he could take down that god modding butterfly SOB. I totally agree that if Gin hadn't been a secret good guy Ichigo would be nothing but a stain on the rubble.

Exactly. Proving once again that Hollowfication really isn't all that it was cracked up to be. After the Espada stopped making sense to any sane mind (which was right around when Nnoitora died and Ulqiorra did Segunda Etapa), the vizard and arrancar became easy marks to kill, and Tosen was doing great untill he did a Resurrection and died in one chapter. And Aizen wasn't even a hollowfied being, the Hogyoko just turned him into a skull-faced abomination. Gin did much better than Tosen, and Ichigo didn't even use his hollow powers to fight Aizen when the chips were down at the end. Which leaves me puzzled as to the importance of the whole Vizard powerup as a plot device in the first place.

The whole inner hollow thing was there to reinforce the false belief that that's what the Hyogyoku was for and if Ichigo had an inner hollow angsty teens who can't control their hormones or emotions could relate to his feelings of being ripped apart much like they could with Naruto or Gaara's inner demons

A serie-spanning red herring does not show good writing or storytelling on the part of the creator... though Aizen's endless list of shrugging off instant-death attacks as being "all according to my plans" sort of set the tone for the whole deal.

Tell you what I would rather go back to the days of epicly generic invincible bad guys and deus ex machina bull, instead of dredging through this menagerie of new useless characters and incredibly boring chapters.

Well if youre in the first couple or so chapters it's acceptable I'm sure ramen related lines were considered exciting early on in naruto but when you're up past chapter 400 it's downright unacceptable.

Are you trying to tell me to pay attention? that's a joke in it's self just before this scene which yes I did edit to provide more information Gin said "Did it reach you?" Obviously he didnt mean did the clap reach him as Gin was on top of a building he must have meant the sound of the clap so from that I draw the conclusion that he meant KamishininoYari was 500 times faster than the sound created by the clap not the clap itself.
