Some possible characters for YET ANOTHER possible story, set during the early 1960's. I have writing ADHD, I know.
Anyway, this is Joseph Swain and Petal Burke, the main characters. Basically, the gist of it is that Joseph (17 years old) is in a car accident that kills his twin brother and leaves him with severe memory damage. He remembers his name, and he remembers his brother, but everything else is gone, and almost every morning he forgets everything all over again. The part of his brain that holds recognition and memory is damaged in a way that he almost starts over new every day; occasionally he remembers for longer than 24 hours, but not often. His nurse's daughter comes to help her mother one day; that's Petal. She becomes fascinated by Joseph, finding herself being drawn in, despite his various issues and oddities, and soon becomes determined to help him remember. He falls for her, as well, but he forgets her every morning. That's why she's crying in this, because she knows that he won't remember her.
