Description
The Himba are an ethnic group of about 20,000 to 50,000 people, living in northern Namibia. The Himba breed cattle and goats. The responsibility of milking the cows lies with the women. Women take care of the children, and one woman will take care of another woman's children. This community also served as a orphanage. Many of the women were caring for one or more children that were not theirs as well as having up to six or more of their own.Photo by

Did you get to sleep in the village with them or was it just visiting?

No just a visit. It was actually an orphanage. Each with had about 5 kids of their own and then 1 or 2 adopted. A local farmer married one of the girls and left her the land.
