Description

*EDIT* I uploaded a new version with some detail shots at the bottom.

This is the actual board game illustration for the brand new Call of Cthulhu board game expansion: Innsmouth Horror, made for Fantasy Flight Games. This place is obviously the city of Innsmouth in the CoC setting, and I followed the reference map as good as 1:1 as I could, down to the single cottage.

I made this quite a while ago, and yes, it took me ages to do, hehe. I made a set of buildings and structures, and then places everything manually.

More info on their site: [link]

Made using Photoshop CS2, and a Wacom Intuos tablet.

I love this I hope one day some company made a game, GTA style but with lovecraft imagination, with a map like this.

Well hello! I'm the guy that drew that old pen-scratching back in the day. The original black and white that is... I never even knew my map was turning into a board game, of all things. I'll give you PM so we can have a chat about getting me a copy eh!

~may Cthulhu never eat you, lest you want it to.

SvΓ¦rt imponerande! For ein tolmodigheit du mΓ₯ ha for Γ₯ lage noke sΓ₯nt.

Ser pΓ₯ resultatet at du liker kart. Litt av ein jobb det mΓ₯ ha vert. Likte veldig at det ikkje ser ut som du berre har masseprodusert husa. Eg kjenner desverre ikkje til Call of Cthulhu, men antar at kartet passer perfekt!

This is awesome! Did you base the layout on Lovecraft's "mud map"?

I have seen two of your maps, and they get better every time you upload a new one. I've been fascinated by maps as well... is just that I don't have such a gifted skill as you!

I roleplay Vampire, usually in an "actual" frame time. Do you have any city maps? You them by contract only?...
A city like London made on your drawing style (maybe Manchester) would be gorgeous!

I even have an actual BIG size map of London for a new game I'm thinking on...

Thank you a lot for this beautiful and really helpfull maps.

Congrats!

I have only made maps of the cities available on in my gallery, unfortunately. All related to Call of Cthulhu

Thanks you

Your works reminds me of Diesel, from Dungeons Magazine. You and him go into crazy detail, to the point that the maps become works of art themselves. Truly great work, keep it up.

Amazing work. I'm actually about to get into this board game. I look forward to seeing your work on my table.

After seeing your stunning amount of detail I feel inspired to paint some maps for my DnD game. Thank you for sharing your fantastic, inspiring work with us all.

Incredible work. I recently got interested in cartography and making my own maps and am in awe of your maps.

Have you ever done a tutorial or a step-by-step of your mapmaking process? I'd love to see anything like that.

henning In reply to JRSly [2009-05-31 23:47:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks
I haven't made any tutorials on making maps, no. Good idea, I will definitely make one if I find time once all my pending tutorials have been added to my site

JRSly In reply to henning [2009-06-01 16:57:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the reply, I hope we might be seeing a mapmaking tutorial sometime in the future. And I've really been enjoying the tutorials at your site as well, can't wait to see more of those. With ImagineFX magazine so expensive and impossible to find any back issues of, it's great to have your tutorials online.

henning In reply to JRSly [2009-06-01 20:37:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's something I really should do, as it's quite simple really, both to make the tutorial, and making these maps
I'm also very grateful that IFX granted me permission to post my older tutorials on my site.

Haha, yeah.
Well, I have a thing with maps, and this combined with my favorite setting; Call of Cthulhu can be a time consuming combo :-P
I see lots of things I could have improved now. I made this map about a year ago (it takes time for these things until they're available on the market).

Not sure if you saw the latest version I replaced with the close up details at the bottom?
